Otto

Otto (オットー) is a young-looking soldier with dark-brown hair and gentle brown eyes who serves at Ehrenfest's city gate under Gunther, Myne's father. A merchant at heart, he handles most of the gate's paperwork and trading, and it is he who first teaches Myne to read and write.

Otto had planned to buy cheap citizenship near Frenbeltag and open his own shop, but he fell in love at first sight with Corinna, Benno's younger sister. To prove his sincerity he spent all his savings on Ehrenfest citizenship and took a soldier's job to be near her; after they married he moved into the Gilberta Company's building.

He is devoted to his wife and their daughter Renate, praising them at exhausting length to anyone who will listen. Retaining his merchant instincts and connections, Otto becomes an important early link between Myne and Benno, and eventually takes over as head of the Gilberta Company.
