Dross

Dross is a one-eyed, pebbly purple sphere with two stubby little arms — a mind-spirit, or the seed of an Abidan Presence: an artificial intelligence begun and then discarded by the Monarch Northstrider. Cast aside as worthless "dross," he fell into the mind-sharpening waters of a Dream Well, where over decades of solitude he slowly became sentient.

Lindon discovered him in the pocket world Ghostwater and, with Dross's permission, freed him from his rusted shell and completed him, so that Dross now lives inside Lindon's spirit at the stem of his brain. He can materialize to move about on his own, but remains bound to his host.

Bright-voiced, dramatic and often comically anxious, Dross gives Lindon extraordinary powers of memory, calculation and perception, letting him analyze techniques and process information at superhuman speed. Far more than a mere tool, he becomes a genuine friend and one of Lindon's most important companions.
