Chapter 768: The Beast-Calling Flute

January 17, 2020 · 4 min read · 753 words

In the Divine Realm, the drop rate from field bosses you kill for the first time is double the normal rate, so what guilds love doing most is clearing bosses on new maps.

Campbell Volcano hadn't been touched by any players yet — all of its bosses were completely unclaimed.

Kill any single boss and the drop rate would be absurdly high, to say nothing of Shi Feng activating his Heaven-Bestowed Grace skill, which sent his Luck stat through the roof.

Even though drop rates after level 50 were normally nothing to write home about, right now they were terrifyingly good.

Not only did they get over twenty items at once, but everyone's levels shot up by a huge chunk. A level-50 Great Lord already gave massive EXP, and challenging one at such a level gap made it even more generous — some people jumped straight from level 32 to 33.

"Man, that EXP is insane! Just ten minutes and my EXP bar shot up over 40%. If I were grinding on my own, it'd take half a day at least. This leveling is way too satisfying — if we keep this up, our whole raid'll hit level 40 in no time and we can buy mounts!" Hei Zi checked his EXP bar and couldn't help but blurt out in shock.

He hadn't expected a field Great Lord to give such massive EXP. Even split among a hundred players, his EXP jumped 40 percent. He was already level 33, and leveling required a huge amount of EXP — even grinding monsters and running dungeons nonstop, it would take two or three days to reach level 34.

That meant killing just two more bosses would push him straight to 34. That leveling speed was faster than a rocket.

Shi Feng shook his head with an amused smile.

Hei Zi was thinking way too optimistically. Field bosses did give massive EXP, and killing the Blazing Flame Bear had only taken about ten minutes, but field bosses weren't regular mobs scattered all over the map. Campbell Volcano only had two Great Lords, and after killing one, you had to wait a full day for it to respawn. There was no way to farm them endlessly.

Besides, they'd relied mainly on the Tier 3 demon to take this boss down. Without the Tier 3 demon tanking, with their current levels and equipment, they had absolutely no chance of killing a level-50 Great Lord.

"Guild Master, did the boss drop anything good?" Guardian Knight Ke Le was amazed by the EXP but even more interested in the boss's loot.

At Ke Le's words, everyone's attention shifted to the drops.

A Great Lord boss — any single drop could spark a mad scramble among countless guilds.

"The drops were solid. Eight weapons and armor pieces total — one is a level-50 Dark Gold plate chest, one is a Dark Gold two-handed battle axe, and the rest are Gold-grade equipment. But the most valuable thing is probably this flute." Shi Feng sorted through the loot and held up a silver-white flute with a grin.

A normal level-50 Great Lord would drop around a dozen items at best. Thanks to the first-clear bonus and his sky-high Luck, they'd gotten over twenty. Most were rare materials, and every item had solid quality — they even scored a piece of Magfire Gold, which had an absurdly low drop rate. This was a massive haul.

But what truly caught Shi Feng off guard was the silver-white flute in his hand.

"Guild Master, is there something special about this flute?" Watercolor Rose studied it for a while but couldn't figure out what was special about the silver-white instrument.

Neither could anyone else.

Because the silver-white flute only had a single line of text in its item description:

Damaged Flute.

Under normal circumstances, this would absolutely be treated as junk and sold to an NPC.

"You've all heard of the Beast-Calling Flute, right?" Shi Feng said with a slight smile, giving everyone a hint.

"No way — Guild Master, you mean this is a mount?!" Guardian Knight Turtle Dove couldn't help but blurt out in excitement.

In an era when all players were still running around on two legs, riding a high-level mount would be absolutely sick.

Mounts were still out of reach for current players — not just because of level requirements, but more importantly because of the cost. Even at the right level, buying a single horse would set you back 40 gold coins.
