The Black Dragon's earth-shaking roar spread outward, and there was no way it could go unnoticed.
"Hmm, that sound is incredibly loud. Something powerful must have spawned."
"If it's a Leader monster, we'll be rich!"
"Come on, let's go check it out! We can't let anyone else get there first!"
A team of over twenty players farming nearby in the underground tomb noticed the Black Dragon's roar and immediately finished off their current monsters before rushing toward the sound.
Watchgrave Cemetery was full of treasures — you could stumble into a pit and find a treasure chest without even trying. But powerful monsters were rare in Watchgrave Cemetery. Usually, whenever a formidable monster appeared, there was always treasure nearby. That had become an established rule.
The roar alone was that terrifying, so naturally, no one was willing to pass up this opportunity.
At the same time, it wasn't just one team that heard the astonishing shriek. Groups from all directions converged on the source.
However, at the very center of the roar, a man and a dragon stood facing each other, radiating an overwhelming aura of intimidation. The very air around them had begun to congeal.
"Is this the backlash?"
Shi Feng had fully opened his five senses, concentrating almost all of his mental energy on the Black Dragon phantom before him. Although the Black Dragon in front of him wasn't the real thing — merely an illusion — even so, Shi Feng treated it as a grave enemy, not daring to let his guard down in the slightest.
It wasn't that Shi Feng chose to act this way. It was involuntary.
Being stared at by the Black Dragon phantom alone was enough to make the cold killing intent choke the air from his lungs. Even when facing a Great Lord, Shi Feng had never felt this way.
The backlash of a Magic Artifact — Shi Feng had never experienced it, nor had he ever heard what it entailed.
But considering how it had overwhelmed so many top-tier experts in his previous life, it was clear that the backlash of a Magic Artifact was no ordinary matter. One careless move could ruin your character entirely, which was why everyone who obtained a Magic Artifact had to think long and hard about it.
Though Shi Feng was on high alert, the Black Dragon phantom merely gazed at him with its crimson eyes, showing no further intent to act.
"You're not going to attack?" Shi Feng was somewhat surprised.
Although he hadn't fully prepared himself to deal with the backlash, the heightened activity of his brain had already allowed him to step into the realm of Fine Control. His mastery of techniques had surpassed his previous life, and he was confident he could handle the backlash.
But then the Black Dragon phantom suddenly revealed a cold, distinctly human-like sneer. Its gaze was filled with deep contempt. Then it vanished without a trace, leaving behind only a stretch of ruins and the Abyssal driven into the ground.
The Abyssal had returned to its usual black color — pitch-black from end to end, with wisps of dark energy faintly wreathing around it. In the dark of night, it would be virtually impossible to detect.
"It wasn't the backlash after all?" Shi Feng stared at the Abyssal embedded in the ground in disbelief. "So the more the Abyssal is upgraded, the stronger the Black Dragon's power becomes — and the weaker the suppressing force grows."
Shi Feng walked over and pulled the Abyssal from the earth, carefully examining its stats once more.
Abyssal — One-Handed Sword, Magic Artifact.
