Chapter 272: Blood Red

January 17, 2020 · 4 min read · 851 words

"Is this thing trying to wipe us all out?" said, his face a shade paler than usual.

"Hmph!"

Xuan Le didn't bother with words. He raised his hand and launched seven or eight fireballs straight into the dense web of spider silk.

After a series of muffled pops, the web remained perfectly intact—not so much as a singe mark.

This time, no one showed surprise. They had all expected the web wouldn't be so easy to break.

In the blink of an eye, the white spider bent several of its legs, then surged forward with explosive force, hurtling its entire body straight toward Xuan Le.

Xuan Le's expression darkened. He reached out, pulled a yellow talisman from somewhere, and pressed it to the ground. The talisman silently sank into the earth without a trace.

A moment later, a massive stone spike several feet thick erupted from the ground a short distance ahead, skewering the spider's abdomen precisely as it leaped through the air. The spike pinned the creature firmly against the cavern ceiling, holding it there so it couldn't come down.

"Nice!"

Lü Tianmeng let out a loud cry of approval, his face lighting up.

He then hurled a dark green leather pouch, its opening aimed directly at the spider pinned to the ceiling. A faint, iridescent glow seeped from within.

The spider, trapped against the ceiling, hissed and shrieked several times. It folded its legs inward against its abdomen, gripping the top of the stone spike, and then wrenched with all its might.

With a violent crashing sound, the top of the stone spike shattered as easily as if it were made of chalk. Countless fragments of rock rained down.

The now-free demonic beast dropped straight down, landing right on top of the broken spike. The small eyes on either side of its head flickered with a green glow—it seemed enraged.

It crouched low, then launched itself forward, lunging at the group of cultivators once more.

But just then, a torrent of iridescent light erupted from the leather pouch that had been thrown, sweeping the spider out of midair and engulfing it without a hint of error. The pouch then reeled back with lightning speed, shrinking the demonic beast from large to small and sealing it inside.

and the others watching from the side were stunned. The spider had looked so incredibly dangerous, yet it had been captured alive this easily? It was almost impossible to believe.

Lü Tianmeng himself wore an expression of mingled shock and elation. His "Sun and Moon Pouch," though immensely powerful, had collected its share of demonic beasts before—but to capture this spider so smoothly had genuinely caught him off guard. Still, wild joy surged through him in the next instant. If he could tame such a demonic beast, his strength would leap forward by several levels.

Thinking this, even the normally composed Lü Tianmeng couldn't hide the delight on his face. He waved his hand eagerly toward the green pouch, and it began drifting slowly back toward him under everyone's watchful eyes.

The other cultivators naturally understood what a live demonic beast meant to someone from , and undisguised envy flickered across their faces. But the moment those expressions appeared, the flying pouch suddenly froze in midair and stopped moving.

Lü Tianmeng's heart lurched. He hurriedly channeled his magical power, trying to force the pouch back, but after a few wobbles it remained stubbornly suspended in the air.

Now even the onlookers knew something was wrong, and they grew cautious.

The surface of the pouch began bulging and deforming in uneven shapes, as though the beast inside was putting up a fight. This strange spectacle lasted only a brief instant before subsiding—only for the pouch to suddenly swell outward like a round drum. Then, with a thunderous boom, the pouch burst apart in every direction. The white spider had torn through the artifact by sheer force and returned to its original form.

Having escaped captivity once more, the demonic beast was clearly driven into a frenzy. Its crystalline white body gradually flushed red, radiating a terrifying crimson light, and its rows of fangs ground against each other with a dreadful scraping sound.

Lü Tianmeng and the others took several cautious steps back, intending to create distance before unleashing a barrage of artifacts.

But the blood-red spider slashed its legs to either side and shot forward like lightning, diving straight into the gap between the two cultivators who had retreated the farthest.

Two streaks of white light flashed. With two wet thuds, the protective barriers of both cultivators shattered under a single strike from the creature's front claws, and their bodies were severed at the waist, killed instantly. One of them was none other than the ugly man —poor fellow, he had thought he would be safer if he kept his distance.

Witnessing the brutal deaths of the two cultivators and the spider's lightning-fast assault, the rest of the group scattered in every direction, faces drained of color, desperate not to follow in the footsteps of the fallen.
