"My beloved Millene, I picked this Starblue just for you! You'll marry me, right?"
"How many times do I have to say it? I'm not interested in the likes of you. You probably stole that flower from someone, didn't you? How revolting — have some shame!"
"No... Millene..."
Dalton slumped over, crestfallen.
He'd gone through all the trouble of summoning her to Marquis Galm's estate gardens for a confession that was supposed to be foolproof, but Millene had left in short order.
The servants, awkward beyond measure, quickly tidied up and scurried away.
No one stayed to comfort him — only his aide remained.
"Wasn't this flower supposed to guarantee success?! Damn it — it was nothing but a rumor! Tricking me like this... the punishment for this crime is severe!"
"That's right, Master! It's the flower's fault — Master did nothing wrong!"
Dalton slammed the Starblue he'd stolen from Randy onto the ground and ground it under his heel.
"That's right! Take that, take that — have you learned your lesson, you shameless flower?! She rejected me because of you! Now die and apologize to me!"
"You're the one who should be apologizing, Dalton."
"Who the— gwaah!"
I appeared behind Dalton, kicked him to the ground, and ground my foot into his back.
"Ow, ow!"
"M-Master! What are you doing to Master?!"
"You confess using a flower you stole from someone else, and when it fails, you blame the flower? That doesn't fly, does it? You're the shameless one here."
I ground my foot harder into Dalton's back.
"Gyaaah! My spine — it's breaking!"
"This is for trampling the flower that Falmus worked so hard to cultivate."
I pressed down harder, grinding into Dalton's back with deliberate care, until eventually there was a sickening crack.
"—!! Gyaaaaaaah!"
Dalton's shrieks echoed across the grounds, his spine now broken.
"Master! How could you?! This is Master Dalton, son of the Galm marquisate! Are you not afraid of the Marquis?!"
The aide-like man threatened me.
Another goblin borrowing a dragon's authority, perhaps?
I'm not the least bit afraid of such things. I'll cut down every last one of them.
"What's going on here? I heard some ugly screaming and thought I'd check it out."
Three mercenaries appeared, draped in beast pelts and adorned with claws.
"You're late, 'Three Starving Wolves'! Kill this insolent fool and save Master at once!"
The sycophantic aide barked orders at the three mercenaries.
These are the ones who took... from Randy-san.
"Heh heh heh. Take your foot off the little master. Do that, and we'll make it quick."
"You three — you took the flower from Randy-san along with his arm, didn't you?"
As it turned out, not even in this other world was there a flower that guaranteed a successful confession.
The truth was simple: someone had remarked that since it was rare, perhaps it had such an effect, and the claim had simply taken on a life of its own.
