The head maid is the position of overseer of the female staff in the castle of House Quordenze. She holds the junior maids to a strict standard: the newly hired Minitt, for instance, she used to scold constantly, driving her nearly to tears, until the girl's speech and manners smoothed out. Through her, commoner girls are chosen and trained for the castle, serving in part for the sexual education of young lords.
