Chapter 0269: The Possibility of Becoming a Red-Robed Ghost

January 17, 2020 · 3 min read · 630 words

Wei Wu's sudden move caught everyone off guard—Kong Xiangming hadn't anticipated it, and even hadn't reacted in time.

"Looks like it's always your teammates bearing the pressure, huh? So why are you the first one to cut and run?"

"Wei Wu!"

Surrounded on all sides, hemmed in by three vengeful spirits and one "lunatic," Kong Xiangming's eyes had gone bloodshot, looking like they were about to drip red. He never would have imagined that Wei Wu would abandon him so decisively.

In the blink of an eye, Wei Wu had already sprinted several meters away. Chen Ge ordered two of the vengeful spirits to keep Kong Xiangming occupied, then gave chase alongside .

"Xiao Gu has already opened the passage door. We can't let this guy escape!"

By the time Chen Ge burst out of the room chasing Wei Wu, the three medical students had vanished without a trace. With that, the last of Chen Ge's misgivings disappeared.

"Stop struggling—you're not getting out!"

Hearing that voice behind him—like something calling his soul away—Wei Wu ran even faster. The face on the back of his head kept shrieking, as though urging him to run faster still!

The gap between the two of them widened. Chen Ge didn't have many options; carrying the Skull Crusher put him at a disadvantage in a footrace. The only reason he could stay close behind was his superior stamina.

Wei Wu pumped his arms, his mind drowning in voices screaming faster, faster! He remembered where the exit was. After weaving through a few forks, a glimmer of hope ignited in his chest.

"Whatever happens, I can't fall into his hands! Push harder! I can definitely make it out!"

He charged out of the corridor where the deep well was located, not slowing down one bit. But just as he was about to push forward, he realized that over a dozen puppets had appeared at some point in the dim, narrow hallway ahead.

That was right—more than a dozen of them!

"Weren't they in the classrooms? How did they get out here?"

Intertwined arms, crooked bodies, one eerie smiling face after another staring at Wei Wu, sending chills from head to toe.

"Why?!"

Every time he tried to head in a certain direction, countless people and things would block his path. This had already happened several times today.

He plunged forward, crashing into the "crowd" of puppets. As they toppled, arm after arm snagged his clothing.

At any other time, he could have used the bloody face on the back of his head to slowly free himself from their grasp. But the crucial problem was that Chen Ge was right behind him.

In the very last instant before he fell, Wei Wu glanced back at Chen Ge. The grotesque Skull Crusher brought to mind the way he himself had looked the very first time he went out to create an urban legend.

"Once upon a time… I chased innocent people just like this too…"

"Bang!"

His other arm went limp and dropped as well. A tremendous force slammed Wei Wu face-first into the ground. Before he had any chance to resist, Xu Yin landed on his back, plunged both hands into the back of his skull, and tore that bloody face right out!

Screams echoed through the haunted house. After dealing with Wei Wu swiftly, Chen Ge dragged him to the side.

The bloody face on Wei Wu's body had been ripped to shreds by Xu Yin, and the scattering flakes of blood became food for the multitude of puppets.

"Good work—very perceptive of you." Chen Ge never withheld his praise. He could tell the puppets were delighted.

With Xu Yin in tow, Chen Ge headed back into the West Suburb Private Academy scenario.
