Chapter 268: You Don't Understand How Precious Life Is

January 17, 2020 · 4 min read · 715 words

Strange sounds echoed from time to time within the West Suburb Private Academy scenario, and the stench in the air seemed to have thinned considerably.

"Evenly matched? Looks like these two Odd Talk Association members are actually pretty capable."

quickened his pace. He hadn't spotted Wei Wu along the way—the poor guy must have been scared witless and fled straight to the deepest part of the scenario.

"But where's there to run? This scenario is completely sealed. There's only one exit."

Odd Talk Association members coming to cause trouble while his haunted house was open for business gave Chen Ge an intense sense of urgency. If he didn't uproot the Odd Talk Association completely, they'd definitely come back to cause more trouble in the future. That was why, the moment they had crossed paths, Chen Ge had gone straight for the kill.

After walking another ten-odd meters, Chen Ge finally saw the two sides locked in combat.

Kong Xiangming's expression was grim. A tall, gaunt shadow stood atop both his shoulders—a ghostly figure far more powerful than the ones Chen Ge had encountered in the Third Ward. Perhaps it had lingered on too many innocent victims, because the shadow on Kong Xiangming's body stretched nearly four meters long, its abdomen carved with row upon row of weeping human faces, making it look like an enormous centipede!

Opposite this monster stood a puppet with a noose wrapped around its neck.

The puppet was clearly missing chunks of its body in multiple places, yet it still charged at the shadow again and again.

"The more vicious the soul, the better it tastes." Kong Xiangming watched the puppet with an amused glint in his eyes, but the monster on his shoulders wasn't focused on the puppet at all—it was warily eyeing another direction.

The stench that blanketed the entire West Suburb Private Academy coalesced into a shadow, which then took the form of a hulking, fat man.

The fat man's face was impossible to make out. He possessed great strength, but his body was clumsy and unwieldy, unable to maneuver in the narrow corridor.

Both the fat man and the puppet were severely lacking in combat experience. Under Kong Xiangming's command, the tall, gaunt shadow repeatedly landed sneak attacks to devastating effect.

Gradually, the wounds on the puppet and the fat man multiplied. Their bodies became increasingly translucent, and the stench in the scenario slowly dissipated.

"That weak?"

Chen Ge thought about it and figured it made sense. The powerful, defiant spirits in the West Suburb Private Academy had probably all been devoured by . Only these two—who were both weaker and knew their place—had been left behind.

Wei Wu was hiding behind Kong Xiangming. The bloody face on the back of his head spotted Chen Ge from afar and immediately let out a piercing shriek!

"Watch out! The target of this mission is right behind us!"

Kong Xiangming had been holding his own fighting two opponents at once, but that didn't mean he was under no pressure. With Wei Wu's frantic urging, he was starting to crack.

"How did you lead him here?" Kong Xiangming's voice could still maintain a semblance of calm, though his speech had sped up considerably.

"I didn't want to! How about we swap? You deal with him, and I'll hold off these two spirits for you?"

The bloody face on the back of Wei Wu's head possessed a special ability—it wasn't meant for combat, much like the pen spirit. Kong Xiangming knew this well. "Fine."

The two seemed to have teamed up before. Back to back, they rotated in unison.

Blood-red threads spread outward from the back of Wei Wu's head. The expression on the bloody face gradually shifted to match that of the hanged puppet. Strangely enough, when the transformed bloody face looked at the puppet, the perpetually violent puppet actually grew quiet, its eyes slowly turning hollow.

Wei Wu had stabilized the puppet, but he was completely helpless against the fat man formed from the stench. All he could do was watch as the fat man's body slowly recovered, and the stench in the scenario gradually intensified.

Having entrusted his back to his teammate, Kong Xiangming—and the tall, gaunt shadow on his shoulders—turned to face Chen Ge.
