Chapter 199: A Wisp

"Sister Goddess, you're not tricking me, are you?" felt his body temperature rapidly cooling down, and only then did he let out a breath of relief. That scene just now had been too terrifying, leaving him with lingering fear.

"How could I possibly deceive you? This is how we always sensed the power of laws before," said with furrowed brows, looking somewhat displeased. She couldn't understand what had happened to Nie Li. Had he failed his sensing? But even if the sensing had failed, there was no reason for his entire body to feel like it was burning so that he jumped straight into the water.

"Fine, fine." Nie Li waved his hand and said glumly, "You said I had to sense that wisp of light amid endless darkness."

"That's right," Yu Yan nodded. "That's exactly how you sense the power of the Light Law."

"You said a wisp!" Nie Li said miserably.

"It is a wisp!" Yu Yan replied. This method of sensing was absolutely correct. Back in her day, she too had trained like this for decades before she could sense that single thread of Fire Law power.

"Are you kidding me? That wasn't a wisp — it was practically the sun! My eyes nearly went blind. Forget feeling warmth — my entire body felt like it had been dropped into a furnace. I nearly got cooked alive! That scared me half to death. Cultivating your law powers is way too dangerous," Nie Li said with lingering dread. That scorching sun moments ago had truly felt like it was about to char him to a crisp.

Looking at Nie Li, Yu Yan's face took on a strange expression as she fell into a daze. How was this possible? What kind of freak was Nie Li? Most people who sensed the power of laws — even if they spent decades — would be considered quite remarkable just to sense a wisp. Even someone born with a Divine Body would probably need several years.

But Nie Li, on his very first attempt at sensing, hadn't just sensed a wisp of the Light Law — he had actually sensed a blazing sun.

Legend had it that when the Light Spirit God cultivated to the absolute peak, she could indeed wield power as scorching as the sun. Each time she sensed the law, she would be bathed in the blazing sunlight.

But Nie Li had only just begun cultivating the power of laws!

Even Goddess Yu Yan felt her mind couldn't quite keep up.

Nie Li reflected on what had just happened. That situation had indeed been dangerous, but through it he had also felt the tremendous power of laws. So this world was constructed from these powers of law. Human Soul Power was merely cultivated on their foundation.

Nie Li immersed himself in the dark spring, slowly understanding and deconstructing the power of laws. He felt that mysterious Runic Patterns had actually formed in the palm of his right hand — tiny wisps of Light-element Runic Patterns flowing within his palm.

"So this is the true essence of law power!" Nie Li was shocked. These flowing Runic Patterns proved that the essence of law power was not a naturally born force — it had been created by some supreme being. Mysterious Runic Patterns had been laid out across the entire world, establishing a set of rules by sheer decree.

These Runic Patterns filled the entire world, like the air itself.

No wonder someone like Yu Yan, even after her Divinity had shattered, could slowly reassemble it. Yu Yan was the Fire Law of heaven and earth, and the Fire Law was Yu Yan! When enough of it gathered together, it formed Yu Yan!

In theory, in his previous life, if Nie Li had wanted to break through beyond the Legendary realm, he would have needed to cultivate the power of laws — because this world was already enveloped by them, like an enormous cage with everyone trapped inside. But by a stroke of fortune, Nie Li had entered the Book of Time-Space Demon Spirit and encountered entirely new cultivation techniques, which allowed him to break free from this world.

Seeing the Runic Patterns in Nie Li's palm — which contained the blazing power of the Light Law — Yu Yan assumed he had written and created them himself, and she was utterly astonished. Nie Li had grasped the Light Law in such a short time? That was simply unimaginable!

What Yu Yan didn't know was that these Runic Patterns had been deconstructed by Nie Li from the power of laws itself. The true essence of law power was nothing more than Runic Patterns. Some supreme being had laid these patterns out, and the power of that being may have surpassed even the peak version of Nie Li from his previous life.

"The power of laws? Pretty interesting," Nie Li said with a faint smile at the corner of his lips. With a soft pop, his right hand was enveloped in a mass of white light. The white luminescence danced about like a spirit of flame.

"If there is light, then there is darkness. These two opposing sets of Runic Patterns should be relatively easy to deconstruct," Nie Li thought to himself. He continued cultivating, reaching out to sense the power of darkness.

The boundless void — the coldest, most silent, deepest darkness.

Gradually, Nie Li became fully immersed in the dense power of the Dark Law.

Seeing that Nie Li said nothing and had simply resumed his law cultivation, Goddess Yu Yan felt a quiet stirring in her heart. In all the centuries, this was the first time she had encountered someone with such astonishing talent — someone who could master the Light Law in so short a time. It was truly hard to imagine what heights Nie Li's cultivation would reach in the future. Could he surpass the Light Spirit God at her peak? Yu Yan continued with her own cultivation.

Little by little, Nie Li deconstructed the power of the Dark Law. After all, whether it was the Light Law or the Dark Law, they were merely powers at a level below that of the Heavenly Dao — only slightly more profound than Soul Power. Mastering them was not particularly difficult.

After a short while, Goddess Yu Yan suddenly opened her eyes, looking at Nie Li in utter disbelief.

Nie Li's left hand slowly opened, and with a soft pop, a mass of black light ignited in his left palm, like a ball of black flame, pulsing in the center of his hand.
