Chapter 783: The Wall

January 17, 2020 · 4 min read · 740 words

The black shadow lived in the same dorm room as Lin Sisi. He even knew the password to her phone — the relationship between these two was definitely not ordinary.

"I want to know everything about Lin Sisi. This concerns whether we can leave the school safely," Chen Ge asked again, but the black shadow didn't respond, as if the name Lin Sisi was taboo in this school — speak of it too much, and something bad would happen.

The black shadow shook his head lightly, pointed at Chen Ge, then pointed up at the ceiling and down at the floor. It was impossible to tell what he was trying to express.

"Are you saying that whatever we talk about can be heard by other things?" Chen Ge tried to interpret the shadow's gestures.

The black shadow shook his head again and began gesturing out characters one by one — *We killed Lin Sisi. We are all Lin Sisi.*

"We are all Lin Sisi?" Chen Ge vaguely understood something. He was about to ask his next question when a faint stench drifted past his nostrils. "Something's coming!"

The black shadow reacted even faster than Chen Ge, yanking open the door across from the art studio and ducking inside.

After entering, the black shadow didn't close the door. Chen Ge immediately understood his meaning and followed him in.

"He even knows to leave the door open for me. Looks like he really is willing to cooperate."

Everything Chen Ge had said was true — at least, that was how he saw it.

A vengeful spirit needed a substitute to die in its place, while simultaneously watching out for other vengeful spirits. Meanwhile, the substitute — if he wanted to stay alive — could only pick the most reliable one among all those spirits.

Whether he lived or died tomorrow was a problem for tomorrow. What Chen Ge needed to focus on right now was surviving this night. He would use everything he could, exhaust every possible method to stay alive.

"What exactly are those stinking things?" Chen Ge moved away from the door and stood behind the black shadow.

By now the black shadow had returned to normal. He looked quite frail — a full head shorter than Chen Ge. Standing behind him gave Chen Ge an indescribable feeling of strangeness.

"The changes in the art studio have probably already alarmed the staff inside the lab building. I saw a security room on the second floor. The red spirit inside will very likely come after us because of the damage to the art studio." Chen Ge analyzed calmly. The black shadow felt Chen Ge's reasoning made sense, though he was somewhat puzzled — how did Chen Ge know there was a red spirit in the security room?

"This place is no longer safe. Let's leave the lab building first, find somewhere else, and then discuss our next move properly."

Chen Ge had already accomplished his goal in entering the lab building. He didn't want to stay in this danger-filled structure for even one more minute.

Walking over to the window, Chen Ge pulled back the curtain and glanced outside first. "We'd have to climb down along the outer wall. It's a bit dangerous."

Taking the elevator at this point would be suicide. The window was the only way out.

After confirming that Teacher Bai wasn't outside, Chen Ge climbed through the window and carefully gripped the edge of the windowsill.

The cold wind whipped through his hair. His back was already drenched in sweat. "I really wish this were a nightmare. That way, all I'd have to do is jump, and I'd definitely wake up."

Spotifying the air conditioning unit on the third floor, Chen Ge slowly adjusted his position. "If I miss the jump, everything's over. It all comes down to this."

Chen Ge took a deep breath, but just as he was about to let go, the black shadow appeared at the window.

He stood at the ledge, looking down at Chen Ge dangling outside the lab building. At this moment, all he had to do was pry open Chen Ge's fingers to kill him effortlessly.

"Follow me! We leave together!"

There was nothing in Chen Ge's voice but trust and concern, and this produced a feeling in the black shadow that he could hardly adapt to. In the end, he didn't make a move against Chen Ge.

"Hurry!"
