"Your wife really cares about you."
"Of course she does." Captain Li put his phone away, then suddenly felt something off about the way that was phrased: "What's with the way you address people? You call me 'uncle' but call my wife 'sister-in-law'?"
He talked for a while but got no response. Turning around, he realized
The police car pulled up right in front of New Century Amusement Park's entrance. Captain Li woke Chen Ge, who stumbled out of the car in a daze with his backpack slung over his shoulder.
"Stay safe! Zhang Peng hasn't been caught yet. Based on the current situation, that desperado is psychologically twisted — he could very well stop at nothing to get his revenge on you." Captain Li couldn't help but nag him with concern.
"I know." The mention of Zhang Peng sobered Chen Ge up a bit. He waved Captain Li off and entered New Century Amusement Park.
The old man who watched the gate had long since fallen asleep. Chen Ge walked in through the front entrance without the slightest notice.
"Pretty productive night. The affinity mission is complete — I can make one reasonable request of
"I need to study this carefully and make the most of this opportunity." Chen Ge didn't exit the page. Holding the phone just like that, he pushed open the haunted house's barrier fence and stepped inside.
"When I've got the money later, I'll rent a place outside. Sleeping in the staff break room all the time feels a little weird." Chen Ge walked along the pitch-black corridor. He knew every corner of this haunted house — even without the lights on, he wouldn't bump into anything.
*Creak.*
As he passed the first-floor bathroom, the wooden door seemed to catch a breeze, letting out a faint creak.
The bathroom door was already flimsy to begin with, and that day Chen Ge had taken a sledgehammer to it. The door panel was already warped.
He tried to push the door shut, and while wiggling the panel, he suddenly noticed the bathroom window was half open.
"Did I forget to close the window when I left the haunted house?"
The sky outside had already begun to lighten. Chen Ge stood at the window and inspected the sill — no footprints or anything of the sort. "Am I just getting too paranoid lately?"
Chen Ge grabbed the mop leaning against the cabinet and headed toward the monitoring room at the far end of the corridor. The haunted house had been re-equipped with cameras that basically covered every corner — a quick check would tell him whether anyone had entered.
He pushed open the monitoring room door, sat down in front of the desk, and turned on the computer.
All the surveillance footage was saved inside. Chen Ge first found the camera number above the bathroom door and opened its video feed.
He was only checking out of caution, but after a few minutes, Chen Ge suddenly spotted an unfamiliar man in the footage!
The man had his head down. After exiting the bathroom, he quickly dashed into the corridor.
"Someone really did get in. There's someone else hiding inside the haunted house besides me!" Chen Ge's drowsiness vanished completely. "This guy seems to know there's a camera above the bathroom door — he moved with clear purpose, running straight toward the deep end of the corridor. He's definitely been inside the haunted house before."
There were several cameras along the corridor. After the unfamiliar man disappeared from the bathroom camera's feed, Chen Ge found the next camera's number. This one was positioned at the corner of the corridor, and its footage could seamlessly connect with the bathroom camera's view.
The screen switched. The footage showed the unfamiliar man running down the corridor and charging straight into the monitoring room.
