The three-star trial mission at Jiujiang Medical College took place underground, where things could go wrong and escape would be difficult, so
"I'll leave the statue here for now. I'll find an opportunity to make contact with the school later. Either way, if I want to complete the underground morgue mission, this college is a step I can't skip."
The underground morgue mission was the final side quest within the four-star horror scenario — the Haunted School.
"If a three-star horror scenario is already this terrifying, I can't even imagine what a four-star scenario would be like, let alone the five-star horror scenarios that might exist beyond that."
The Black Phone had its own system for categorizing the scream index of horror scenarios, but
His thoughts drifting elsewhere, he gripped the Skull Crusher Hammer and walked over to the two girls.
In the darkness, if not for his Yin Eye, he wouldn't have been able to make out their faces at all.
"Come on, I'll escort you out."
Both girls wore bitter expressions. This man had essentially cornered the statue from the school's urban legend into nonexistence, and he was still saying this place was dangerous?
"Don't be scared. The reason I acted so fierce just now was only because things are too eerie here. If you show fear and back down, those monsters will latch onto you."
"Gentle and refined?"
"Yeah, that sort of feeling."
At that moment,
"Let's go. I'll walk you out."
The three of them exited the warehouse. As they closed the wooden door,
"What's that sound?" Ma Ying and Liu Xianxian heard it too.
"Does this passage lead to the underground morgue?" Even with his Yin Eye,
"I don't know, but it probably extends beneath the western campus. That area was sealed off years ago." Ma Ying and Liu Xianxian's eyelids were twitching wildly, an overwhelming sense that something terrible was about to happen.
At the far end of the passage, the bouncing sounds grew rapid and dense, intermingled with a strange noise that resembled the breathing of some enormous beast.
Deep underground, there was no visible vent, yet they could distinctly feel a gust of wind — laced with the smell of formaldehyde — blowing toward them.
"Move! Don't stay here!"
Before Ma Ying and Liu Xianxian could even process what was happening,
"What's chasing us?" Liu Xianxian had sprained her ankle. She was terrified inside, but couldn't run fast.
"I'll carry you on my back." Ma Ying's own strength hadn't fully recovered, but she hoisted Liu Xianxian up anyway, slowing them both down even more.
The dense pattering behind them drew closer and closer. Their scalps went numb from the sound — they didn't dare imagine what it could be.
"What do we do?" Their legs were growing heavier by the second. Ma Ying felt like she was about to collapse.
