Chapter 385. I Can't Even Cry Fake Tears!

January 17, 2020 · 4 min read · 704 words

Holding the Skull Crusher Hammer, walked up to the statue. He stared into its eyes and asked his first question.

"You can verify whether each thing I say from now on is true or false, can't you?" Chen Ge's question wasn't particularly difficult, and he had no intention of making things hard for the statue.

He stood before the statue and waited for half a minute. It still didn't react at all.

"What's going on? Why isn't it crying?" Chen Ge turned to look at Ma Ying and Liu Xianxian. Both girls flinched when they realized Chen Ge had turned around.

"That's impossible! We just tested it — there's nothing wrong with this statue."

They were underground, surrounded by total darkness. The only light came from a phone.

Ma Ying wanted to get a clearer look at the statue's side of things, so she held up her phone with one hand. But the moment the light fell on the statue, she seemed to suddenly realize something and frantically angled the light back down.

She apologized to Chen Ge in a panic: "I understand the rules — I didn't see your face, I don't know what you look like! I didn't see anything! I won't tell anyone about anything that happened here!"

Her gaze was frozen on the bloody, grotesque weapon. Ma Ying wished she could just throw the phone away.

When you're the fish on the chopping board and someone else holds the knife, you worry. She was terrified that Chen Ge would silence her for knowing too much.

In a cadaver transport tunnel two o'clock in the morning — first they ran into ghosts, then got chased by a swarm of fish-like monsters, and now they'd stumbled upon this terrifying man. A relentless series of deadly blows had completely shattered Ma Ying and Liu Xianxian's composure. Their minds were blank. All they wanted now was to get back to the surface as fast as possible.

"Silence you?" Chen Ge put himself in their shoes. "Your concerns aren't without reason."

Hearing those words, both girls nearly burst into tears.

"All right, I'm not blaming you."

Chen Ge stood in front of the statue again. His Yin Eyes allowed him to clearly see the dried bloodstains at the corners of its eyes. "Was my question just now too difficult?"

While he studied the statue, Liu Xianxian, who had been hiding behind Ma Ying, was gradually calming down. Listening to Chen Ge's voice, she vaguely found it familiar — it reminded her of someone in her memory.

"That's impossible. Why would he be in a cadaver transport tunnel at two in the morning? I must be imagining it."

Chen Ge paid no attention to the two girls. He circled the statue with the Skull Crusher Hammer in hand. "There seems to be a foul smell coming from inside the statue. I really want to crack it open and take a look."

He stood before the statue once more. "This time I'll try a simpler question. I hope you think carefully before answering."

Chen Ge flicked on the repeater switch and raised the Skull Crusher Hammer. "Do you believe I can smash you to pieces within one minute? If you don't believe me, I'll try it right now."

A crackling static hissed from Chen Ge's backpack. In just a few seconds, two lines of bloody tears flowed from the statue's eyes.

"So the legend is true." Chen Ge smiled with satisfaction.

The sound of his laughter sent a shiver down the spines of the two girls behind him. They looked at the statue that Chen Ge had backed into a corner in the dark, and felt an inexplicable twinge of sympathy for it.

"Pen Spirit can predict the future, but with only a fifty percent accuracy rate. This statue can determine whether a statement is true or false. If I combine its ability with Pen Spirit's, wouldn't I have access to information that's one hundred percent accurate?" Chen Ge began scheming about the statue. "Carrying it out like this obviously won't work, and getting those two girls to help me carry it would be too much of a hassle. I'll leave it here for now."
