Chapter 112: I've Heard Them Talk About It

January 17, 2020 · 3 min read · 662 words

Dr. Gao seemed to have his own reservations: "If we wait until tonight, I'm afraid won't be able to hold on. His condition is getting worse and worse."

Men Nan kept his head lowered in that eerie posture, his eyes rolling around, not saying a word.

"But there's no better option right now." knew what Dr. Gao wanted to say. "His situation is completely different from what Wang Xin went through back then, so there's nothing I can do on that front. If you trust me, let me go check out the apartment building where he lives tonight. I might be able to find something. Also, I want to ask him a question."

Chen Ge walked over to Men Nan and slowly ran his hand across the top of his head and down his spine.

"What are you doing?" Dr. Gao didn't quite understand.

"Have you noticed that no matter when he's talking or walking, he's always keeping his head down? It gives the impression that something heavy is pressing on top of his head." Chen Ge had noticed this a while ago; he just never had the chance to ask. "Men Nan, don't you find it uncomfortable holding that posture all the time?"

Once Chen Ge pointed it out, Dr. Gao took it more seriously too. He gently patted Men Nan's back. "Does it still feel uncomfortable?"

Men Nan waved his hand dismissively. His head never once tilted upward. Standing among the crowd for so long, his emotions were becoming unstable again, as if he could lose control at any moment.

Seeing this, Dr. Gao had no choice but to bring Men Nan to a shady spot to rest.

"Men Nan's eyes are rolling around at an abnormally fast rate. He seems to be constantly scanning his surroundings. And there's another habit — he rolls his eyelids upward, as if he's trying to see the top of his own head." From a distance, Chen Ge stared at Men Nan's back, and the more he looked, the stranger it seemed.

A normal hunched posture would curve the spine into an arc, but Men Nan's back was perfectly straight while his head tilted downward. The whole impression was as though something heavy sat on his head, pressing it down so he couldn't lift it.

"Washing his hair — why would he keep having that dream?"

The black phone still showed no response, so Chen Ge stopped paying attention to it. Special visitors were an unexpected windfall for him. Gaining benefits from them was great, but not getting any wouldn't send him into a foul mood either.

After two more groups of visitors were sent in, Men Nan's condition finally improved somewhat. Dr. Gao really did have a knack for psychological counseling. The Men Nan who was on the verge of a violent breakdown in front of others became remarkably calm when standing beside Dr. Gao.

He brought Men Nan back to Chen Ge. The two seemed to have already discussed it. "Tonight at eight, we'll meet at the entrance of Haiming Apartments."

"Sure." Chen Ge agreed immediately, and the black phone in his pocket gave a slight buzz. "Get him to fall asleep normally tonight. I'll keep watch."

"I'll come with you." Dr. Gao thanked Chen Ge and led Men Nan away.

"Another oddball." Chen Ge now roughly understood the black phone's definition of special visitors. They weren't necessarily ghosts — most of them were people caught on the boundary between two worlds.

He took out the black phone and opened the notification message.

"The second special visitor has departed. Thanks to your efforts, mission information has been successfully obtained! Unlocking hidden trial mission — The Room of Three."

"The Room of Three (Scream Rating: One Star): Arrive at Haiming Apartments before midnight and uncover the cause of the special visitor's affliction."

"Mission location: Room 303, third floor of Haiming Apartments."

"Mission hint: He came from the third ward."
