"What on earth is going on in White River City?" Shi Feng watched the aggressive crowd with confusion. "Could they have recognized me?"
But after a moment's thought, he realized that couldn't be right — these people weren't targeting him.
To avoid drawing attention, Shi Feng had thrown on a black cloak long before arriving in White River City, hiding both his appearance and his ID name. He hadn't told anyone about his movements, so how could someone be lying in wait for him? And at the entrance to White River City's teleportation hall, no less — even if they blocked him, what would be the point? Would they really dare to attack?
The city guards of White River City were no pushovers.
There had to be another reason these guilds were doing this.
"Interesting. I wonder what these guilds are scheming," Shi Feng muttered with a faint smile and walked forward.
Right now, the Zero Wing guild was at the height of its influence in White River City. It was only natural that the other guilds wouldn't sit easy — some kind of action was to be expected.
The entrance to the teleportation hall was bustling with activity. A massive crowd had gathered, representing numerous guilds from White River City. Among them were plenty of third-rate guilds, and notably, people from both the Dark Star guild and the Xiong Ba Tian Xia guild.
"What exactly do you people want? We already told you — we're not interested!" a strikingly beautiful female knight with bright eyes and pearly teeth snapped impatiently.
"Now, now, miss, don't say that. Interest can be cultivated, you know. The fact that you're not interested now just means you don't know enough about us yet. I'm sure that once we spend a little more time together, you'll naturally come around." A level 18 male assassin clad in a set of Iron Rank equipment spoke with a thin smile.
After the assassin finished speaking, the dozens of players behind him tightened their formation around the entrance, making it absolutely clear they had no intention of letting anyone leave.
"Is this how the guilds of White River City operate?" the female knight frowned.
"Hahaha. Don't misunderstand — we're not insisting you join any of our guilds. If you're not interested in our guilds, all you need to do is pay us five silver coins as a service fee. After all, we can't very well have come all the way here for nothing," the assassin sneered.
"You... you're going too far!"
The female knight was furious. She drew her long sword and shield in an instant. Though her equipment was a mix of common and Bronze Gear, her level 17 was nothing to scoff at.
Right now, most players in White River City were only around level 13, with a handful reaching level 14. Only veteran players had hit level 15, and anyone at level 16 or above was considered Elite within a guild.
For a solo player to have reached level 17 was proof of genuine skill.
"What, you want to fight? Go ahead then. I'll just stand right here and let you take a swing. Come on, hit me if you can!" The assassin laughed arrogantly, even stepping closer toward the edge of the female knight's blade.
"You're shameless!"
Though seething with anger, the female knight didn't strike. They were inside White River City — attacking first meant being arrested or even killed by the guards. But with so many bodies blocking the entrance, there was simply no way out.
And paying the fee was something she couldn't bring herself to do.
Just getting here had already drained most of their money. Now these guilds were demanding an outrageous sum — five silver coins per person was practically half of what an ordinary player had left.
"Jiu, don't be impulsive." A burly male warrior reached out and stopped the female knight.
"Brother Jianying, they've gone too far! I'm going to teach them a lesson no matter what — even if the guards haul me away." The female knight, whose name was Banjiu, wore an expression of grim determination.
