The currency used in the was the Demon Spirit Coin. Generally, two to three thousand Demon Spirit Coins were enough to cover a family's expenses for an entire year. The value of all goods in the City of Radiance was measured in Demon Spirit Coins — weapons, armor, Demon Crystals, the hides of various Demon Beasts, spirit herbs, and more.

The annual enrollment fee at Sheng Lan Academy was over three thousand Demon Spirit Coins, a substantial expense for ordinary commoner families. But even if it meant scrimping and saving, many commoner families still sent their children to Sheng Lan Academy, because becoming a Warrior or a Demon Spirit Master — even at the Bronze rank — could change a family's fate.

A Bronze Warrior employed by the City Guard Army could earn five to six thousand Demon Spirit Coins per year, and could also venture deep into the for additional income.

The Tian Hen Family, to which belonged, was a relatively declining noble house. The family head, Nie Hengxun, was a Gold One-Star Demon Spirit Master, and the family's annual income was roughly over six hundred thousand Demon Spirit Coins. The family's annual expenditures were enormous — enrollment fees alone for the clan's younger generation cost over three hundred thousand Demon Spirit Coins. Combined with various other expenses, the family frequently spent more than it earned and was forced to sell off properties to stay afloat. Even so, the Tian Hen Family still sent every single junior member to Sheng Lan Academy.

Family Head Nie Hengxun always said that only outstanding juniors could make the Tian Hen Family rise again. No matter how hard things got, every junior in the family had to receive the best possible training.

In his previous life, Nie Li hadn't quite understood those words, and he'd felt a certain distance from Family Head Nie Hengxun, who had always been very strict with them. It was only after being reborn that Nie Li finally grasped the family head's good intentions.

As a member of the Tian Hen Family, I will make our family grow strong and become a peak power in the City of Radiance!

Having been reborn, Nie Li's mind still held memories of many powerful cultivation techniques. But before that, he needed to earn some money to buy a few basic Soul Crystals to test the attributes of his own Soul Sea, so he could decide which cultivation technique to practice. Once he found a technique suited to his constitution, everything else would come with half the effort and twice the result.

Dong! Dong! Dong!

The bells echoed throughout the City of Radiance. Class was over.

Students of Sheng Lan Academy filed out through the towering walls and poured onto the bustling streets near the academy entrance, where the shouts of merchants rose and fell in waves.

"Brand-new Bronze armor, engraved with the Wind Snow Sigil! Young masters and ladies of the noble houses, are you interested?" A vendor in a short gray robe called out enthusiastically, quickly drawing the attention of many students. Bronze armor wasn't something ordinary students could afford, but Sheng Lan Academy had plenty of young masters from wealthy families, and with a bit of luck, he might actually sell it.

"Look — Bronze armor engraved with the Wind Snow Sigil!" the students chattered excitedly. It was a pair of gauntlets, their entire surface radiating a deep cyan glow, covered with mysterious totems. A faint chill of frost seeped from within.

"How much does it cost?" one student asked quietly.

"Sixty thousand Demon Spirit Coins!" the vendor replied with a grin.

"Heavens, that's expensive!" An average family couldn't save up sixty thousand Demon Spirit Coins even in over a decade.

"This is Bronze armor engraved with the Wind Snow Sigil! The sigil was drawn using the Demon Crystal and demon blood of a Wind Snow Banshee. That banshee was still in its prime when it was taken down — Wind Snow Banshees aren't exactly easy prey! The properties of the banshee give these gauntlets incredibly strong offensive capabilities! This is absolutely the best armor for Wind Snow-type Warriors and Demon Spirit Masters!" The vendor rambled on with great enthusiasm, his sales pitch tumbling out in a torrent.

Many students lingered over the Bronze gauntlets for a moment before silently moving on. Such expensive items were beyond their means.

"Bronze armor costs sixty thousand Demon Spirit Coins — imagine how much Silver and Gold armor must be!" muttered. His monthly allowance was barely over five hundred Demon Spirit Coins. Lu Piao's family owned numerous businesses, so he was relatively well-off financially. In his previous life, Lu Piao had often helped out Nie Li and . But even with his extra money, Bronze armor wasn't something he could just buy on a whim.

Nie Li, Lu Piao, and Du Ze walked along, taking in the sights. The street was packed with a dazzling array of goods — expensive or cheap, you could find just about anything.

"Nie Li, what exactly are you looking for?" Lu Piao asked, watching curiously as Nie Li scanned their surroundings.

While they were chatting, a figure walked up to the vendor.

"Look — it's !" Lu Piao jerked his chin in that direction. "And !"

Nie Li looked into the distance and saw Ye Ziyun chatting happily with a group of girls. Her pretty face and sweet smile were full of sunshine, enough to make anyone's heart skip a beat. Among the group, she was undeniably the most dazzling one — once you looked at her, it was hard to look away.

Everything around them seemed to burst into vibrant life simply because of Ye Ziyun's presence.

Shen Yue kept glancing over in her direction from time to time.

"I just happen to need a pair of Bronze Gauntlets — wrap these Bronze Gauntlets up for me," Shen Yue said coolly to the street vendor.

"Right away, young master!" The vendor's face lit up the moment he heard, and he deftly packed the Bronze Gauntlets with practiced hands.

"Here's sixty thousand Demon Spirit Coins!" Shen Yue casually pulled six Demon Crystal Cards from his Space Ring — each Demon Crystal Card was worth ten thousand Demon Spirit Coins.

Throwing down sixty thousand Demon Spirit Coins as if it were nothing, Shen Yue looked utterly nonchalant, tucking the Bronze Gauntlets into his Space Ring without a second thought.

Several girls nearby let out soft gasps of surprise — sixty thousand Demon Spirit Coins tossed out just like that, how incredibly rich! A few of the prettier ones cast flirtatious glances his way, their eyes shimmering with intrigue. But Shen Yue paid these girls no attention whatsoever, casting an arrogant glance toward Nie Li and the other two before gazing deeply at Ye Ziyun — his eyes saying plainly, *you are the only one in my sight*.
