Chapter 17: Thrown Out

Seeing 's fist slowly pried open by , a pained expression crept across Shen Yue's face. His gaggle of lackeys were all dumbstruck.

"What's going on? What happened to Boss Shen Yue?"

They stared blankly at Shen Yue. In their eyes, Shen Yue should have had more than enough to teach Nie Li a lesson — so why was Shen Yue wearing such a look of agony? What was happening?

, , and the others were hardly surprised by the scene. They watched calmly. Ever since they had started cultivating the techniques Nie Li taught them, their power had advanced by leaps and bounds. Their Soul Power hadn't reached 100 yet, but their strength had already increased dramatically.

The divine art Nie Li practiced had to be even more powerful than theirs. They had no idea what level Nie Li's cultivation had reached, but suppressing Shen Yue should be more than within his reach!

What they didn't know was that Nie Li's current cultivation speed was actually a bit slower than theirs. His power was still relatively weak, but with the vast and profound knowledge from his previous life, even an ordinary person who had never undergone any training could toy with Shen Yue to death — let alone Nie Li.

Nie Li spoke coldly, "Ziyun isn't someone you can call by name whenever you please. If I catch you tailing her again, I'll beat you every single time I see you!" Having been reborn, Nie Li would not allow anyone to harbor ill intentions toward . That bond forged through life and death, through hardship and devotion — it was something a piece of trash like Shen Yue could never understand.

"This can't be happening — there's no way I'd lose!" An intense unwillingness surged within Shen Yue. He never imagined he would actually be defeated by Nie Li. His expression twisted into something savage. "You forced my hand!"

Shen Yue's Soul Sea churned and surged. Waves of Soul Power radiated outward from his body, crashing toward Nie Li.

Though he hadn't mastered any Demon Spirit combat techniques, Shen Yue could already use Soul Power to directly strike at an opponent's Soul Sea.

Shen Yue's Soul Power had already reached 78. Nie Li's, on the other hand, had been at just five two days ago. Now it was only thirty-something.

Nie Li's Soul Power was barely half of Shen Yue's!

"This is bad — Nie Li only started cultivating Soul Power two days ago. He shouldn't be able to match Shen Yue." Du Ze's expression changed. Unfortunately, they were too far away, and several of Shen Yue's lackeys — six of them at Bronze rank — were blocking their path. There was simply no way they could get close.

Shen Yue pushed his Soul Sea to its absolute limit. Soul Power surged forward in a torrent toward Nie Li.

"Ha ha! Such pathetic Soul Power, and you dare act tough in front of me?" Shen Yue could feel how weak Nie Li's Soul Power was. With his own strength, he could absolutely crush Nie Li!

"Impressive words from a fool." Nie Li let out a contemptuous, cold laugh. In his previous life, he had challenged countless Demon Spirit Masters and faced incomprehensibly powerful super Demon Beasts. Those masters and beasts — beyond possessing immense Soul Power — had also pushed their control over that power to staggering extremes.

Though in this life Nie Li's Soul Power was still meager, the experience he had accumulated through countless life-and-death battles remained. His mastery of Soul Power was still there. Even with just thirty-something points of Soul Power, even a real Bronze-ranked Demon Spirit Master wouldn't be able to get the slightest advantage against him!

Shen Yue's use of Soul Power was crude and primitive. In Nie Li's eyes, the brute-force approach of ramming Soul Power into another person's Soul Sea was no different from some barbarian tribe in the wilderness.

That was not how Soul Power was used!

To Nie Li, Shen Yue was riddled with openings. If Nie Li wished it, Shen Yue would already be a corpse on the ground within a single breath! But the did not permit killing — and especially in a sacred place like Sheng Lan Academy, killing was absolutely out of the question.

Nie Li couldn't be bothered to kill Shen Yue, because in his eyes, Shen Yue posed zero threat whatsoever.

Would a tiger consider a chicken to be a threat?

Laughably, some people were entirely without self-awareness. Shen Yue felt his Soul Power surging forward unstoppable, and a look of wild elation spread across his face. He could almost picture the look of agony on Nie Li's face.

Just as Shen Yue's Soul Power was about to slam into Nie Li's Soul Sea, Nie Li's Soul Power condensed into a single strand — like a slender needle — and lanced straight into Shen Yue's oncoming force.

Piercing the broad with the fine!

Shen Yue's Soul Power was spread wide and flat, while Nie Li's was compressed into an incredibly narrow beam. Though Nie Li used only a fraction of his own Soul Power, it sliced effortlessly into the heart of Shen Yue's attack.

"Aaah!" Shen Yue let out a shrill, pig-slaughtering scream. Wherever Nie Li's Soul Power reached, Shen Yue's own force crumbled away. Nie Li's power struck directly into Shen Yue's Soul Sea.

A sensation of being pierced clean through shot through his Soul Sea. Beads of sweat the size of beans rolled down Shen Yue's body. He gasped in huge, ragged breaths, as though he had seen something utterly horrifying.

His Soul Sea was shaken. His mind was stunned. His vision began to blur. The Nie Li standing before him loomed as massive and unyielding as a mountain! An overwhelming feeling of impossibility rose within him — the sense that resistance was futile! Nie Li's cold, composed expression sent slivers of chill crawling up from the depths of his heart.

Nie Li's gaze was like an unsheathed blade. Having survived countless life-and-death battles in his previous life, the number of powerhouses who had perished beneath his palm was beyond counting. Even after crossing back into this world, Nie Li's soul still carried a bone-piercing, bitter chill — a terrifying aura that a petty brat like Shen Yue could never hope to withstand.

Shen Yue was scared out of his wits. A cold wetness spread through his trousers — he had actually wet himself in fear.

"What's going on? What happened?" Several of Shen Yue's Bronze One Star lackeys looked on with confused expressions.
