Chapter 152: The Old Man

January 17, 2020 · 5 min read · 942 words

A thousand bottles?

's jaw dropped. How could possibly have so many precious pills?

Nie Li glanced at the dazed Duan Jian and couldn't help but smile before walking on ahead.

They found an inn in the town, paid for eight days' lodging — six bags of grain in total — and settled in.

Now all they had to do was wait for the agreed-upon time and then cause a major scene in the Silver Wing Family's territory.

Nie Li stayed in his room and took out the two things he had just purchased: seven scrolls of Legendary forbidden arts, and those three throwing daggers.

He opened one of the scrolls. The demon blood used to inscribe the runic patterns had already faded considerably, yet it still radiated powerful waves of energy. The patterns on the scroll were densely packed and incredibly intricate — incomprehensible to ordinary people.

But none of that posed any difficulty for Nie Li.

"A summoning-type Legendary forbidden spell, no less." Nie Li was startled, wondering what kind of creature it would summon.

In truth, what the vast majority of people didn't know was that the world they inhabited was vast and boundless. The continent where Nie Li and the others lived was called the Sacred Spirit Continent, one of six continents belonging to the Main World. Within the Main World lay countless subsidiary dimensional worlds — like the Dark Prison World.

The Dark Prison World was one of the smaller dimensional realms. Some were enormous and filled with danger, including the Abyss Giant Demon that had previously attacked the — it had been summoned from the Abyss World. The Abyss World was among the most terrifying and perilous of all dimensional worlds.

Besides the Abyss World, there were the Wind Snow World, the Thunder World, the Lava World, and more.

Dimensional gates were scattered throughout the Main World, allowing passage between it and the various dimensional realms.

Summoning-type forbidden spells called forth powerful creatures from these dimensional worlds. The vast majority of summoned creatures obeyed the summoner's commands, but some did not — and that could result in catastrophic disasters. Like the Abyss Giant Demon from that day.

Nie Li carefully wiped the dust from the Legendary forbidden spell scroll, then gathered several herbs and brewed a potion, which he slowly applied to the runic patterns.

What he used was called the Clear Melting Potion. It could re-awaken the demon blood on the scrolls, allowing it to unleash its powerful energy once more.

After a short while, the scroll was renewed, brimming with surging power.

With one scroll restored, Nie Li moved on to the rest. There was only a single summoning-type scroll; the others were elemental or utility-type Legendary forbidden arts. Once he had finished processing all of them, Nie Li smiled faintly.

Even a Legendary powerhouse, if completely off their guard around Nie Li, would be in for a painful surprise.

He put the scrolls away and turned his attention back to the three throwing daggers.

"The runic patterns on them are genuinely ancient — at least ten thousand years old," Nie Li thought. He channeled a wisp of Soul Power into one of the blades. Almost immediately, the patterns began to glow, bit by bit, and a stream of energy started flowing ceaselessly through the dagger, carrying scorching flames.

The power sealed within the blade had been awakened. Two ancient characters slowly surfaced on its surface.

"Scarlet Flame?" Nie Li managed to decipher them. The written language of the Sacred Spirit Continent had an unbroken lineage stretching back ages, and even if he hadn't encountered certain characters before, he could still discern their general meaning. Were these three throwing daggers called the Scarlet Flame Daggers?

Nie Li channeled Soul Power into the remaining two.

"Scarlet Frost… and Scarlet Void." Now he knew the names of all three — each one different.

The Scarlet Flame dagger blazed with scorching fire-elemental power. The Scarlet Frost dagger radiated frigid ice energy. As for the Scarlet Void, it was the most mysterious of the three — once activated, its entire form was shrouded in a faint, almost imperceptible wisp of black smoke.

"Three daggers, each with completely different elemental attributes. I wonder which master forged them." Nie Li mused. Within the Legendary realm, these three daggers would absolutely qualify as supreme treasures.

Unlike the Celestial Meteor Thunder Sword, which was not of this world, these three daggers had clearly been forged by a powerful expert of this world. At present, Nie Li could unleash less than one ten-thousandth of the Thunder Sword's power, but with these three daggers, he could draw out at least sixty percent of their full might.

At last, he had some real tools to rely on.

Nie Li sat down cross-legged and began cultivating the Heavenly Dao Divine Art. The three throwing daggers hovered around him, their emanations growing ever closer to his own aura.

Day by day passed. Nie Li's cultivation had stabilized at Gold One Star, and he continued drawing Soul Power from the Red Blood Crystal, constantly tempering himself as he slowly pushed toward Gold Two Star.

As for Duan Jian, he was staying in the room right next to Nie Li, immersed in his own cultivation. Every time he finished a session, he would open his eyes, sense Nie Li's aura, and then close them again to continue. With the boost from Dragon Blood, combined with the Red Blood Crystal and the Soul Tempering Pill, his cultivation speed had increased dramatically. He was on the verge of breaking through to the Black Gold rank.
