Chapter 985: She Forgot Her Own Name, But Didn't Forget You

January 17, 2020 · 4 min read · 728 words

The most dangerous thing in the cabin was the clay sculpture. Now that the headless female ghost had gotten hold of it, they had no chance to fight back.

The faceless monster had nearly killed Chen Ge just now, even with the protection of the four Red Robes. While the shrine and the clay sculpture played a part, this also proved just how terrifying the faceless man's abilities truly were.

He could erase certain memories. If used properly, this ability would be a tremendous help to Chen Ge.

"A vengeful ghost with such terrifying abilities is rare. The most important thing is that he isn't even a Red Robe yet. Once he becomes one, this ability will become even more horrifying."

In Chen Ge's view, if Yan Danian was the most powerful vengeful ghost below Red Robe level, then the faceless man should rank as the second strongest.

"The vengeful ghosts I've been drawing from the wheel just keep getting better and better."

After consuming the residual curse, Red High Heels and Chouxi worked together to drag the man out of the faceless monster's husk.

His body was covered in threads of curse, as if he had been wrapped inside a cocoon before.

When all the curse threads vanished, the man lay sprawled on the floor. He was thin and gaunt, looking quite young — as if he had only just reached adulthood.

"Can you hear me?" Chen Ge crouched in front of the man. After breaking free from the curse, the man's body had turned ethereal, as though he might dissipate at any moment. "I'm not here entirely out of the goodness of my heart. Someone asked me to find you."

The man's eyes remained shut. It was as though he had been through something similar before — only back then, he had been deceived. Now, he had given up all hope.

"It was Fang Yu who asked me to come find you. She carved your name all over her body. Every day, she goes to the park in the city center and sits on a bench waiting for you." Chen Ge's voice grew louder. "The park is going to be demolished now. Last night was probably the last time she went to wait for you."

The man's expression barely changed, though his eyelids trembled slightly.

"Fang Yu's illness is getting worse. Perhaps her greatest wish before she dies is to see you one more time. She has so much she wants to say to you. You were her best friend — her only friend."

Chen Ge didn't know which of his words had struck a nerve. Perhaps it was the mention of Fang Yu dying that finally got through to the man.

His eyelids trembled faster and faster, and the man lying on the floor finally opened his eyes.

His eyes were peculiar — like a cat's, with two thin vertical lines deep within his pupils. Stare at them too long, and it felt as though you'd be pulled right in.

"Fang Yu, Fang Yu…"

He murmured the name over and over, his mind slowly returning to normal. Perhaps for all these years, it was those two words that had sustained him, keeping his obsession from wandering astray.

After a long while, the man looked up at Chen Ge, his lips trembling. "She still hasn't forgotten me? The moment she remembers me, that person will go after her. That's the curse that person placed inside my body."

"Her memory is very poor, but even if she's forgotten her own name, she hasn't forgotten you." A simple sentence, without any embellishment. After Chen Ge spoke those words, the man on the floor slowly lowered his head and closed his eyes once more.

"For ten years, she's been reliving the memory of the day you left. Every single day, she endures the same pain. Even if you won't think of yourself, can't you think of her? Do you truly believe your choice is what's best for her?" Chen Ge sat down in front of the man. He had spared his life for two reasons — first, because his abilities were unique, and second, because he wanted him to go see Fang Yu.

"I'm trying to protect her! There's an evil ghost that has its eyes on Fang Yu! You don't understand how terrifying he is. You don't know…"
