The private room was quite small. A questionnaire and a pen hung on the wall.
"Please choose the option you fear more."
The two choices on the first row were darkness and enclosed spaces.
"Is this some kind of psychological test? Checking whether visitors have claustrophobia or something?"
Chen Ge wasn't afraid of the dark, nor did he mind being locked in a tight space. He was about to pick one at random when a thought suddenly flashed through his mind: "The Nightmare Academy wouldn't be this considerate. They'll probably use each person's answers to design a different route — maximize the scares tailored to each visitor."
After a brief deliberation, Chen Ge circled the word "darkness." He had Yin Eyes — darkness posed absolutely no threat to him.
The second row presented two photos: a spider and a snake.
The third row listed "deranged serial killer" and "wronged restless spirit."
The fourth row showed two model corpses — one headless, one covered in blood.
Chen Ge blitzed through the entire questionnaire in one go, opened the cubicle door, and walked out with the sheet in hand.
From the moment he entered to the moment he left, less than half a minute had passed. The doctor had just ushered the last visitor into a cubicle and hadn't even had time to turn around.
"Do you have any other attractions here?" Chen Ge placed the questionnaire on the desk and eyed the chainsaw and iron hammer on the shelf. The haunted house had probably considered safety — every item on the shelf was lashed to the rack with thin rope and couldn't be taken down freely.
"That fast?" The doctor had clearly been scheming something, and Chen Ge's sudden voice startled him.
"Surprised?" Chen Ge noticed a bulky bulge in the doctor's pocket, as if he were carrying a remote control. The cubicles must have had some sort of hidden mechanism, but Chen Ge had come out too early for the doctor to trigger it.
"I'd advise you to look over that questionnaire carefully. Every option carries a special meaning. I use your choices to assess your personality — that way I can help you all better." The doctor spoke in a tone that was supposedly considerate.
While the two were talking, the remaining visitors filed out of their cubicles one after another. Only the second-to-last door was still shut.
"It's been three minutes already — why hasn't she come out?" Li Yuan clutched Sherry's arm. The young couple were pressed together as though glued.
The doctor was growing a little impatient too. He knocked lightly on the door. "Done with the questionnaire?"
No answer. He knocked again, and finally the door opened.
The quiet woman stepped out of the cubicle and thrust the questionnaire into the doctor's hands.
The sheet was slightly damp. The doctor glanced at it instinctively — tear stains trailed across its surface.
She had answered the first few questions dutifully, but starting from question four, something had clearly set her off. She had scrawled the words "go die" all over the images.
Chen Ge's Yin Eyes let him see everything clearly. Every single word had been written on the photo of the headless model corpse.
Whether this was part of the haunted house's script or a genuine emergency, he couldn't tell.
The doctor hesitated for a moment, then folded the questionnaire neatly and tucked it into his pocket. "I've collected your questionnaire. Next, please follow the senior who brought you in to attend the new student welcome ceremony."
