Chapter 623: Children's Words Carry No Harm

September 15, 2020 · 3 min read · 694 words

Fan Cong's neighborhood was extremely dangerous right now. If went there, he could very well fall into the Shadow's trap, so he turned his attention to the other passengers instead.

Drive the wolves to devour the tiger — Chen Ge had pulled something like this off back when he was playing Xiao Bu's game.

"Other people aren't idiots. Influencing their judgment, getting them to willingly scout ahead for me, that's easier said than done. I need to plan this carefully."

In Chen Ge's eyes, both the Smiling Man and the Red High Heels could become useful to him.

He didn't care whether they had killing intent toward him — all he cared about was their strength. If they were too weak, they wouldn't even qualify as pathfinders.

Chen Ge kept his thoughts to himself. If the Doctor heard them, he'd certainly be branded a lunatic.

"Tonight just keeps getting more interesting."

They hadn't even reached Liwan Town yet, and accidents had already piled up. The situation had long since slipped beyond Chen Ge's control — no one could predict what would happen next.

"I can't go back to New Century Paradise. Li Zheng has a gun, and if he's truly been controlled by the Shadow, returning there would be extremely dangerous."

The Shadow was cunning beyond measure. If he could control Li Zheng, he could just as easily control other officers — even the familiar old gatekeeper could become his accomplice.

This was the most formidable opponent Chen Ge had ever faced. From the moment he'd entered this game, he could no longer trust a single soul around him.

If he wanted to eliminate the Shadow once and for all, the best approach was to take the initiative. Rather than letting himself be deceived, he should charge into the Shadow's lair and drag out his true body to destroy it.

Against an enemy with so many tricks and such high intelligence, Chen Ge had already developed a complete system for dealing with him.

Play to your strengths and avoid your weaknesses. Stay alive first, then push forward as fast as possible.

No matter how many methods the enemy had, no matter how brilliant his mind — if you denied him the time to set up his schemes, it was all for nothing.

"The Shadow's current whereabouts are unknown. He could be lying in ambush at New Century Paradise, hiding behind Fan Cong's door, or even on this very bus. I need to stay on high alert. The moment he reveals his true face should be the moment he believes he can kill me with absolute certainty."

Chen Ge's assessment of the situation was spot on. The eastern suburbs were the Shadow's territory, and Liwan Town was the lair he'd spent years building. Between him and the Shadow, this had never been a fair fight.

"All passengers, please be seated and hold on tight!"

After Chen Ge had worked through all of this, the Route 104 spirit bus had already pulled into the next stop.

The doors swung open, and torrential rain was blasted into the cabin by the howling wind. The windowpanes rattled against the frames, as though they might shatter at any moment.

"Daddy, I'm scared…" A small, childlike voice drifted in from outside.

"We'll be there soon. It's okay — Mommy and Daddy are both right here with you." A pale-faced middle-aged man carried a little boy of four or five onto the bus, and behind the father and son came a disheveled woman with hair hanging over her face.

It was a family of three. From the adults down to the child, every one of them had an unnervingly white complexion.

"Daddy, I'm scared…" The boy clung to his father's arm and refused to let go, but the middle-aged man clearly had no intention of coddling him — the moment they boarded, he set the boy down on the floor.

The gloomy, oppressive bus was filled with all manner of strange passengers. The little boy stood helplessly in the aisle, his two small hands hovering with nowhere to land, looking as though he was about to burst into tears.
