Chapter 616. Heavy Rain! Heavy Rain!

January 17, 2020 · 5 min read · 928 words

It was a little past eight in the morning when stepped out of the horror house, having slept only two or three hours.

The sky was overcast, and the weather wasn't great today, but the tourists' enthusiasm hadn't waned in the slightest. The park hadn't even officially opened yet, and there were already many people lining up outside.

"No matter how fun an attraction is, visitors will lose interest after experiencing it multiple times. I have to keep unlocking new scenes and come up with fresher, more thrilling ways to play." The horror house was Chen Ge's foundation. He'd decided that once he dealt with the shadow, he'd properly upgrade his haunted house.

"Boss, what are you thinking about?" Xiao Gu came running from the park entrance in a tracksuit. "Judging by the sky, it's probably going to rain later. There probably won't be that many visitors today."

"That's not necessarily true. Once it rains, the outdoor attractions can't operate normally, and all the visitors will have no choice but to visit the indoor scenes. I'm guessing a lot of timid people who'd never dare come before will end up coming in." Chen Ge led Xiao Gu into the makeup room. "Anyway, don't even think about slacking off. Get to work."

"Got it." Xiao Gu was a very capable employee—loyal and hardworking. Chen Ge had already planned to give him a raise next month.

Now that the horror house was doing well, he naturally wanted to share the benefits. He couldn't treat his employees poorly.

"Once the new scenes unlock, two employees really won't be enough. I'll need to bring back more from this mission."

The park opened at nine o'clock, and another busy day began.

This time, Chen Ge didn't sneak off to the employee lounge to sleep. He released , Old , and —the three "people"—had them change into outfits that covered their faces, and then, right in front of other visitors, led the three through every scene in the horror house.

He explained the purpose of each room in the horror house and the duties of every official employee to Old Zhou and the others, even going so far as to give them a few lessons on management theory and haunted house operations.

"From now on, the three of you will be responsible for managing the underground scenes. I'll have and assist you." The underground scenes were going to keep expanding, and there was no way Chen Ge could manage everything alone. Accidents were inevitable, so he had to strengthen the "employees'" safety awareness and avoid unnecessary damage. "What I've taught you today—go pass it along to those mannequin students and medical school teachers who are wandering around gawking at everything. Especially tell those doctors: don't just go all out the moment you see a medical school student. Even a vicious tiger won't eat its own cubs."

Chen Ge had no idea what grudge the doctors in the underground morgue scene had with Jiujiang Forensic Medical School, but they were usually well-behaved and seldom caused trouble. Yet the instant they spotted students from their own school, they'd immediately give chase.

What struck Chen Ge as odd was that the principal of Jiujiang Forensic Medical School also had a stubborn, never-back-down streak. It was as if the principal had declared war on the morgue scene, even encouraging students to go there in their spare time to toughen up.

He didn't understand the history between the two sides. All he could do was feel a bit of sympathy for those students who'd been thoroughly terrorized by their own "teachers."

"When I head over to Liwan Town tonight, I could bring those doctors along. It feels like their potential hasn't been fully tapped yet. Keeping them locked in the morgue scene scaring students all the time is a waste."

After finishing his briefing with Old Zhou and the other two, Chen Ge let them enter the scenes.

Visitors touring the horror house today occasionally witnessed some bizarre sight. For instance, a strangely dressed figure—whether a visitor or a horror house actor, no one could tell—would stand at a lecturing podium and deliver a corporate management lecture to the mannequins in the classroom. Sentences like "finding a confidant within the group," "establishing a learning template," and "how to improve work efficiency" would appear on the blackboard from time to time, looking eerily like a pyramid scheme indoctrination session.

Hiding in the shadows, Chen Ge had been observing Old Zhou and the other two the entire time. The results proved they truly were outstanding and could one day become the pillars of the horror house.

"The three of them plus Yan Danian already form the most perfect team. They understand each other, each knows their role. The only shortcoming is that they're too weak, but once Bai Qiulin becomes a Red-clothed Ghost, even that last weakness will vanish. This four-"person" team will be able to help me manage a great many scenes." Chen Ge was quite satisfied with Old Zhou and the others, though he still harbored a small regret—the ideal candidate to manage the horror house should have been the old principal of Muyang High School.

"Things don't always go the way you want. If there's a chance, I'll go visit again." Chen Ge emerged from the underground scenes, entered the employee lounge, moved the white cat aside, unlocked a drawer, and pulled out the notes he'd made before. He reorganized all the eerie encounters he'd experienced in the eastern suburbs.
