Chapter 445: Dr. Chen, Who Doesn't Surname Chen

January 17, 2020 · 3 min read · 657 words

The blood membrane clung to his body, and Chen Ge had been holding back a surge of fury the entire time. The moment the membrane ruptured, he could finally let loose without restraint.

To prevent the blood membrane from reforming, Chen Ge released every single ghost from his comic book all at once.

A massive swarm flooded out — old and young, tall and thin — and even the old man was stunned by the sight.

"They're all pretty decent people," Chen Ge said to the old man, then turned to his employees and added under his breath, "That's your future colleague over there. Don't embarrass me. Make a good first impression."

The old man heard this too but didn't understand what it meant. Chen Ge's employees, however, understood perfectly, and the way they looked at the old man changed.

The sudden appearance of such a large crowd inside the room made the "security guards" outside the door stop in their tracks. An instinctive unease began to creep over them.

"Want to run now? Too late! Weren't you having a grand old time chasing me just a moment ago?"

The instant Chen Ge's words fell, the stench of blood around him thickened by several degrees. Xu Yin spread all ten fingers, and wounds split open across the crimson robe. She lunged forward like a leopard.

"You all go help too."

Standing at the doorway, Chen Ge watched the battle unfold. The "security guards" stitched together from mutilated corpses were stronger than the Slender Ghosts from Ward Three, though not by a huge margin. What made them worse was that they were harder to kill.

"Don't let a single one escape!"

The underground corpse repository was a three-star horror scenario. Chen Ge's own haunted house could also be counted as a three-star horror scenario, so he had every reason to be confident.

Under the collective assault of his employees, not a single security guard got away. Their mangled, grotesque souls dissolved into nourishment for the haunted house staff.

The changes wouldn't be apparent in the short term, but over time, it was entirely possible that a new Red Cloak might emerge among the haunted house's other employees.

Chen Ge knew the probability was slim, but there was nothing to lose by trying.

With the three security guards dealt with, the world beyond the door began to undergo even greater changes. The organs lining both sides of the corridor withered in succession, the blood vessels along the ceiling split apart one after another, and the blood flowing through them slid down the corridor walls.

"Should we be getting out of here?" The old man's body swayed gently along with the corridor.

"No rush. There's still a friend we haven't rescued." Chen Ge called Xu Yin over, and together they entered the room, stopping beside a container constructed from flesh and blood.

The blood vessels in Storage Chamber No. 8 had already burst, and the surface of the container had gone dull. Chen Ge had Xu Yin pry it open, and a rancid stench wafted out — so foul that Chen Ge half-suspected the man inside had been dead for a very long time.

Blood mist surged in, and the middle-aged man — eyes shut tight, face twisted in agony — snapped his eyes wide open.

Those eyes were entirely crimson. A guttural, beast-like roar tore from his throat, and it took a long while before it finally stopped.

Once the man had calmed down, Chen Ge snapped the blood vessels one by one and dragged him out.

"Dr. Chen and Dr. Gao grew up together, liked the same girl, and both became psychiatrists — but their life paths turned out completely different."

As the blood vessels adhering to his body were torn away, Dr. Chen — lying face-down on the ground — slowly let his eyes return to normal. In the depths of his pupils, Chen Ge's reflection appeared.
