Chapter 441: Haven't I Already Died?

January 17, 2020 · 3 min read · 619 words

The corridor of flesh and viscera pulsed with living organs embedded in the walls, while blood vessels crisscrossed the ceiling, countless threads of crimson surging through them.

Compared to when had first entered, the world beyond the door was beginning to change — like a slumbering person slowly waking up.

Walking down the corridor, Chen Ge heard two voices drifting from Storage Room No. 7.

"I heard the experiment failed again?"

"Yeah. Everyone died. Not a single person made it out of that room. Terrifying — I hope it never comes to our turn."

"In your dreams. Our batch is probably next. Have you noticed how few newcomers there've been lately?"

"I have. The experiments must be ramping up because of that — something's happened outside."

"Honestly, I feel sorry for that corpse. Being obsessed over by a madman, and even in death there's no peace. Just endless torment."

"Shut it. That's not something we should be discussing. Just do your work."

Chen Ge stood at the doorway and peered inside. The two talking figures within were monsters.

They roughly resembled humans in shape, their faces normal enough, but their bodies were fused together like clumps of wet mud, held apart from total disintegration only by the red threads stitching them together.

His gaze swept across their faces, and Chen Ge felt a flicker of surprise.

Their bodies might have been assembled from spare parts, but the faces were their own. Chen Ge had seen their photographs in the room outside the Blood Door, where pictures had been pasted on every surface.

Both of them were victims of the Horror Association. One was the father of Patient No. 41 — the middle-aged man who had abused his own child.

Chen Ge didn't rush into Storage Room No. 7. His mind raced, and everything he was seeing roughly matched his earlier deductions.

These two must be the support staff Teacher Liu had mentioned — beings composed of the lingering wills of Horror Association victims, serving the "Principal" directly.

"A tiger's accomplice?" The phrase surfaced in Chen Ge's mind. In his view, the Horror Association truly was an organization with no bottom line whatsoever. Even after people died, they would seize the victims' residual spirits and force them to work on their behalf.

"Just wait. I'll save all of you," Chen Ge murmured, gripping his skull-cracking hammer. He crouched at the corridor's corner, using his Yin Eye to secretly watch the storage room.

The two monsters peeled back the blood-soaked cloth on the floor, revealing row upon row of corpses inside — they looked as though they'd been brought in from the world beyond the door.

They lifted the corpses onto a wheeled cart, positioning it directly in front of the morgue cabinet's door.

"Ready? Open it."

One of the monsters stood beside the cabinet with visible nervousness, took a deep breath, and extended a hand covered in patchwork scars to undo the lock.

The instant the lock's spring clicked, the thick cabinet door was violently thrown open from inside. Countless thick blood vessels surged out like enormous pythons.

The other monster was more experienced. The moment the door swung away, it shoved the cart forward.

By the time the vessels reached out, it had already pushed the corpses on the cart right in front of them.

The blood vessels wrapped around the bodies like the tentacles of some enormous octopus, dragging them deep into the morgue cabinet.

"Hurry — close the door!"

The two monsters threw their weight against the cabinet door together, but something went wrong while they were locking it. One blood vessel slipped through the gap and coiled tightly around one of the monsters' arms.
