"The Vanishing Wife (Scream Rating One Star): Find Liu Xianxian before midnight."
"Mission Hint: He Perhaps Doesn't Love Me."
"Accept the mission? Trial missions can only exist for twenty-four hours. If not accepted within twenty-four hours, it will be considered forfeited, and this scenario will remain permanently locked."
Chen Ge instinctively chose to accept. It was only a one-star scream rating mission—by his standards, it shouldn't be too difficult.
"Is all I have to do is find Liu Xianxian? There are no other mission requirements?"
Chen Ge felt there had to be a deeper meaning behind that sentence, but he couldn't quite figure out the key right now.
After hanging up, Chen Ge returned to New Century Park first. Once he had gathered all his tools, he set off for Jiujiang Forensic Medical College.
At seven forty in the evening, Chen Ge arrived at Jiujiang Medical University's Forensic Medical College and found Liu Xianxian in a teahouse nearby.
"What are you doing in a teahouse?" Chen Ge found it strange. The place was expensive, and more importantly, Liu Xianxian didn't look like she enjoyed drinking tea at all. She was just throwing money away for nothing.
"He prefers quiet places." Liu Xianxian looked a little embarrassed. It was clear she had dressed up carefully, though her complexion was slightly pale. "I booked the private booth next door for you. Just hide in there."
Chen Ge sat down in the spot Liu Xianxian indicated, which gave him a perfect view of the booth across the way.
Once everything was arranged, the long wait began. Liu Xianxian had agreed to meet the man at eight in the evening. Factoring in the time she had spent waiting for Chen Ge beforehand, the girl had arrived at least half an hour early.
She checked her makeup over and over, carefully glancing out the window—equal parts anticipation and nervousness.
Eight o'clock came quickly, but the man Liu Xianxian had arranged to meet did not show.
She took out her phone, wanting to dial a certain number. She found his name in her contacts, then hesitated.
"Did something come up?"
The Liu Xianxian sitting here was nothing like the one who appeared in front of her classmates. She asked the server to pour a glass of water, then picked up the cup and worried about smudging her lipstick. She wanted to present her most perfect self.
Eight twenty came and went, and the man still hadn't arrived. Liu Xianxian stared at the exquisite pastries on the table, without a speck of appetite.
She clutched her phone, wrestled with herself several times, and finally dialed his number.
The busy signal rang more than a dozen times. No one picked up Liu Xianxian's call.
"Something must have happened." Liu Xianxian looked out the window. The crowds outside had dispersed, and the street was slowly growing quiet.
She waited all the way past nine o'clock. The man still didn't come.
