At first, he'd thought the eye-gouging murders were connected to Living Coffin Village. But now it seemed the Association's true objective was likely to deal with him.
"In Living Coffin Village, the Strange Tales Association had already figured out my hand. They now know Zhang Ya is still asleep. The situation is somewhat unfavorable for me."
Chen Ge stared at the map on the table without speaking. The situation was merely somewhat unfavorable for him, but for the Strange Tales Association, they were teetering on the edge of collapse.
Chen Ge had actually long suspected that Wu Fei had hidden a portion of his will inside a substitute ghost, and then placed that substitute ghost somewhere else.
The female ghost had been overjoyed after obtaining the black robe. Clearly, there was something important hidden inside—possibly a substitute ghost.
If that was truly the case, then Wu Fei falling into the female ghost's hands would have been worse than a quick death.
The Strange Tales Association's plan for Living Coffin Village had fallen through, and they'd lost a member in the process. Now only two remained.
Of those two, one was being hotly pursued by the police, and the other had gotten into a fight with Dr. Chen inside Living Coffin Village—a situation that seemed to be a fight to the death.
Chen Ge understood clearly that the Strange Tales Association was having a rough time too. What he feared now was them getting desperate.
After all, for madmen, there was no telling what crazy thing they might do.
"Five murders, all centered around New Century Paradise—this shouldn't be a coincidence. Their next target is very likely you." Captain Yan rolled up the map. "We've tracked down the killer. Within three days, we should have him in custody. During this period, it's best that you don't stay at the park at night."
"Understood." Only then did Chen Ge realize why Captain Yan had asked him to come to the city precinct. The police were trying to protect him.
Captain Yan then asked Chen Ge a number of questions. During the interrogation, he casually—or perhaps intentionally—revealed some information about the eye-gouging case, which Chen Ge committed to memory.
It wasn't until after nine in the evening that Captain Yan let him leave.
Stepping out of the city precinct, Chen Ge pulled out his phone. Gao Ruxue still hadn't called him.
"If she was getting anxious, she definitely would have let me know. Did something happen to her while she was waiting?" Chen Ge felt that Gao Ruxue had been acting a bit strange earlier.
He hailed a taxi and headed for the forensic medicine building at Jiujiang Medical University. On the way, he called Gao Ruxue several more times.
Just like before, no one answered the first two times. It wasn't until the third attempt that the call went through. "You must be getting impatient."
"I'm at the old teaching building. Hurry over—my roommate is getting weirder and weirder." There was a note of urgency in Gao Ruxue's voice. She seemed to be hiding somewhere.
"If you're in danger right now, I'd suggest calling the police immediately. They're more trustworthy than I am." Chen Ge urged the taxi driver to go faster.
"My worry is that my roommate's soul has been swapped with something. If I call the police, how would they possibly believe me? And those two roommates might never come back." Gao Ruxue seemed to know quite a lot—something that was evident from her words.
"Set your phone to one-touch emergency dial and try to stay somewhere with lots of people. I'll be there within half an hour."
