One of the hints in the affinity mission posted by the black phone read: Darling, do you like black, white, or red?
That was precisely why
Wang Xin's adoptive mother liked wearing black and white clothes. The woman he had encountered in the elevator before had been wearing red high heels. Both of them had qualities that aroused Chen Ge's suspicion.
Looking at Wang Xin's adoptive mother more carefully, Chen Ge was surprised to find that this middle-aged woman had a well-proportioned figure. Her complexion and appearance both looked far younger than her actual age.
Setting aside how she might have looked in her youth, even now, this woman could absolutely be called a beauty.
"Patient No. 2 is terrified of aging…"
Chen Ge harbored no improper thoughts whatsoever. He grew even more cautious. He glanced at the teacup in the woman's hand and silently thanked himself for not drinking that water earlier.
"Dr. Chen." The middle-aged woman took a step forward, seeming to notice the shift in Chen Ge's demeanor. "Were you startled?"
"Now that you mention it, I am feeling a little nervous and afraid." Chen Ge smoothly admitted it. "Could you tell me exactly which room is haunted?"
"Room 3133 on the 13th floor. After investigating, the police found that the white figure had fled into that room in the end. But the tenant wasn't home at the time, and later she apparently moved away, so the whole thing just fizzled out. Nobody was hurt and there was no financial damage, so us residents couldn't really keep pressing the issue."
"Perhaps she never actually moved out," Chen Ge said in a low voice.
"What did you say?"
"Oh, it's nothing. I'm just curious — why are there so many threes in her room number?" Starting from the Third Sick Building, Chen Ge had noticed that the number three appeared with unusual frequency in his life. Even after he had summoned the Mirror Ghost, the countdown on the mirror had started from three.
"3133 means Building 3, 13th floor, Room 3," the middle-aged woman explained.
"I spoke with your security guard, and he told me that many of the tenants on the 13th floor of Building 3 have moved out. Is that because some strange incidents have occurred here over the past year or two?"
"Not that I know of. We hardly ever go out at night." The woman thought for a moment. "There is one thing I should mention, though. When you go downstairs later, don't take the elevator. A few months ago, a drunk man was riding the elevator home at night when it broke down on the 13th floor, and a white figure got into the elevator on that floor."
"Elevators are usually equipped with cameras. The whole thing should have been captured on video. Didn't your property management give any explanation?" Chen Ge silently noted every word the woman said.
"The drunk man was terrified. He went to the property management office the next day, and it became quite a big deal at the time." Wang Xin's adoptive mother recalled the scene. "They pulled up the surveillance footage, but there was no white figure in the video at all. It was just a drunk resident randomly pressing buttons inside the elevator, riding from the first floor to the top floor and then back down. The elevator doors opened several times along the way, but nobody got in."
"The doors opened several times?"
"Yes, but only for very brief moments each time. The only exception was the 13th floor — it stayed open a bit longer. The property management's explanation was that someone else may have wanted to take the elevator, saw a drunk man lying inside, and decided not to enter."
"That's a pretty flimsy explanation."
"Tell me about it. Either way, after that incident, we've rarely used the elevator at night."
Chen Ge nodded. Holding on to a thread of hope, he asked, "Is that surveillance footage still available?"
"The property management should have a backup copy. I can go ask for you during the day."
"Thank you very much."
Chen Ge wasn't a police officer and had no authority to view the complex's surveillance footage. After exchanging a few more words with the middle-aged woman, he took his leave.
