The creature's body was torn to shreds, and black snow seemed to fall throughout the corridor.
"She seems to have gotten stronger again…"
His favorability rating with Zhang Ya was climbing at breakneck speed. What if one day she broke through some kind of bottleneck and accidentally "killed him by mistake"?
On the surface, she looked quiet and innocent, but when she actually started fighting, her opponents were either torn apart or eaten alive. She was practically the ultimate villain from some fairy tale.
"Let's get out of Ward Three first." Chen Ge walked toward Zhang Ya, intending to call her away.
Of the three monsters, only the one with its eyes gouged out was still alive. It was covered in wounds, and the faces on its body were all wailing. Its miserable state was so pathetic that even Chen Ge couldn't bear to watch. "Zhang Ya, it's had enough. Stop torturing it — just kill it already. Let's move. We shouldn't stay here any longer."
The monster on the ground stared with its one remaining eye, tears of blood nearly spilling from it. It struggled desperately against the black hair, and all the faces on its body shrieked in unison.
"Is it calling for help? Forget it, let's go!" Chen Ge took several steps with the pig-slaughter knife before realizing Zhang Ya was still standing in place, her black hair wrapped tightly around the creature's legs.
From the other end of the corridor, countless crimson blood vessels coiled around the monster's upper body, as if trying to drag it away.
The stench in the air grew heavier. While Zhang Ya and the blood vessels were locked in a stalemate, the true monster of Ward Three was slowly awakening.
More and more blood vessels surged from cracks in the walls and floor. Some wrapped around the monster's upper half, while others crept toward Zhang Ya's feet.
"What's controlling these blood vessels?" Chen Ge gripped the pig-slaughter knife and moved to help Zhang Ya, but before he could get close, he watched the creature's lean body get torn in two.
The blood vessels carried most of it downstairs to escape. Zhang Ya only managed to snatch a small piece.
This was the first time Zhang Ya had come up short. But in Chen Ge's opinion, managing to keep her life in this kind of situation was already good enough.
He was about to urge Zhang Ya to leave when, before he could even open his mouth, he saw a tidal wave of black hair pour out from behind her. That figure in red charged straight toward the lower floors!
The blood vessels in her path were shredded to pieces. Zhang Ya vanished around the corner at the end of the fourth-floor corridor in an instant.
Cold air rushed into Chen Ge's open mouth. He stood frozen for a second or two before snapping back to reality. "She's actually chasing after it?!"
Chen Ge stared down the dark, yawning corridor. All manner of terrifying images flashed through his mind. Reason told him the best move was to flee Ward Three — the situation had already spiraled beyond expectations. Sometimes, knowing when to cut your losses was the right call.
He wanted to leave, but Zhang Ya had charged in alone. She could easily be lured through the blood door.
On the other side of that door lurked countless dangers and all kinds of monsters. Zhang Ya would almost certainly come to harm.
The more he thought about it, the more terrified he became. A vein bulged at his temple. He slammed the pig-slaughter knife into the wall with a curse. "Reckless fool! An absolute reckless fool!"
After saying that, he gritted his teeth, grabbed the knife, and ran after her.
On the puffy quilt behind him, the white cat's mismatched eyes blinked with incomprehension. This man complained one thing out of his mouth but ran faster than anyone else with his legs. Living humans really were ridiculous.
Chen Ge sprinted all the way to the second floor without catching sight of Zhang Ya. The bloodstains on the walls were multiplying, and the sight of them made his heart race.
