Chapter 1041. What's in Your Bag

January 17, 2020 · 3 min read · 678 words

As long as he could find Yu Jian, every mystery behind this door could be unraveled. More importantly, Yu Jian had once willingly accepted Ming Tai. He and Ming Tai had shared the same body for a long period of time — his understanding of Ming Tai would surpass anyone else's.

The moment he entered the school, activated his Yin Eyes, committing every student's face to memory without letting a single one slip by.

The class bell rang, and Chen Ge walked into the classroom with considerable reluctance.

"Hey, I heard you didn't go home the other day? What happened? Did you run away from home?" A round-faced, chubby boy named Du Ming passed him a note. Chen Ge glanced at it, then crumpled it into a ball. In all his years, he'd never developed the habit of passing notes with other guys during class.

The chubby kid shook his fist at Chen Ge, but Chen Ge completely ignored him and looked down at the class schedule posted on his desk.

"English isn't until third period. Am I just supposed to sit here for the first two classes? What a waste of time."

Chen Ge drafted an action plan for himself, running through every detail and potential hole over and over until he was certain no mistakes would occur. Then he glanced at the clock on the wall.

"Only ten minutes have passed?"

The world behind the door was woven from memory. Chen Ge strongly suspected the reason time moved like this was because he'd never paid attention in class before — always counting the minutes until the bell, always feeling like each day dragged on forever.

Karma. Now that feeling had become reality in the world behind the door.

"I bet the moment class ends, time flies by."

He slung his backpack over his shoulder and considered whether simply walking out would give the teacher a heart attack.

"No need to antagonize the school. Next time I'll just find an excuse to skip."

During math class, Chen Ge had an English textbook laid out on his desk. He'd already prepared ahead of time for third period.

"Hey." Du Ming shoved another note his way. "What club are you signing up for? Neither of us has any friends, so we might as well join the same one. At least we'd have company during activities instead of being completely isolated."

"Club?"

"After school yesterday I saw upperclassmen handing out flyers. Some clubs were even going from classroom to classroom recruiting."

Chen Ge and the others attended a private high school, so some of the rules differed from public schools.

"They're allowed to recruit inside individual classrooms?" The chubby kid hadn't realized his offhand remark had just given Chen Ge an idea. "I could use club recruitment as a cover and go check every classroom aboveboard."

"How about the Go club? No exercise required — you just sit there staring into space. Pretty perfect, right?" Du Ming and Chen Ge were completely on different wavelengths, but the conversation carried on all the same.

Finally, the bell rang for the end of class. Chen Ge grabbed his backpack and bolted out of the door.

"Break time can't be wasted. Someone like Yu Jian, who doesn't have many friends, probably wouldn't wander off randomly. He'd most likely still be in a classroom."

He swept through the first and second floors. Just as he was about to head to the third floor, the bell for the next period chimed.

Chen Ge paid it no mind and continued his search for Yu Jian.

The hallways were already empty of students. With his bag slung over his shoulder and Yin Eyes activated, Chen Ge drifted past the windows of each classroom like a hall monitor on patrol.

"Hold it! What class are you in?"

When Chen Ge reached the fourth floor, a middle-aged man stepped into his path.

The man looked like a discipline teacher — Chen Ge remembered seeing him together with at some point.

"I'm going to the bathroom."
