Su Mu's face flushed red; he glared fiercely at Yang Kai, then stood before him, staring coldly. Yet his gaze was complex—mixed with admiration, reluctance, regret, and a hint of relief.
"Give me the stuff." Su Mu suddenly reached behind him, and Li Yuntian hurriedly handed over two wine jars.
Su Mu took them, kept one for himself, passed the other to Yang Kai, said nothing, ripped open the seal, and gulped it down.
A crowd of passersby from Lingxiao Pavilion stared in bewilderment, wondering what madness had overcome Su Mu to drink alcohol so early in the morning.
Yang Kai smiled faintly, also tore open the seal and took a big swig.
"Good!" Li Yuntian shouted from behind Su Mu.
"Good!" others cheered.
"Swish, swish" two tearing sounds rang out as Yang Kai and Su Mu's wine jars shattered simultaneously, splashing liquor all over their clothes.
"Daytime drinking, violating sect rules—since this is your first offense, I deduct five contribution points each. If there’s a next time, expect severe punishment!" a Dark Hall disciple stepped out from the side, coldly addressing Yang Kai and Su Mu, utterly nasty.
"Deduct away!" Yang Kai replied nonchalantly. Had it been a month earlier, he would have agonized over the loss, but now he didn’t care.
Yang Kai didn’t mind; would this spoiled rich kid Su Mu care? After all, he had powerful backing—contribution points meant nothing to him.
"Zhao Hu, sweep the floor for Senior Brother Yang." Su Mu waved at Zhao Hu.
"Sure." Zhao Hu, who had been floored by Yang Kai’s three moves just days earlier, hurried forward and took the broom from Yang Kai’s hands.
"Is that okay?" Yang Kai glanced at the Dark Hall disciple, who merely snorted coldly and walked away.
"Come, go to your hut; I have something to tell you." Su Mu said.
By the hut, Su Mu and Yang Kai crouched shamelessly on the ground before the small pond, while a bustling crowd behind them busily repaired the hole in Yang Kai’s roof.
It seemed that after that day’s incident, Su Mu and his gang had completely let go of their grudge against Yang Kai—not only that, they had even begun to bond.
"Why did you save us?" After a long silence, Su Mu finally asked.
"Why…" Yang Kai furrowed his brows, "You call me senior brother, so I naturally ought to act like one—probably that’s the reason."
Of course, the main reason is that Su Mu’s nature isn’t truly wicked.
Su Mu turned his head, gazing deeply at Yang Kai: "Really?"
Yang Kai chuckled: "What do you think?"
Su Mu fell silent, feeling uneasy; after a while he said, "Fine, you treat us as junior brothers, we’ll treat you as senior brother—our past mistakes were due to junior brothers being blind, and we owe you an apology."
"I never cared about it anyway." Yang Kai said.
The two locked eyes and burst into laughter.
"One laugh settles the grudge"—that’s roughly what this is.
With the grudge laid to rest, Su Mu no longer felt stiff or awkward; he genuinely regarded Yang Kai as his senior brother. After exchanging some nonsensical talk, Su Mu suddenly licked his lips, a blush rose on his face, and he stammered, "Senior Brother, may I ask you something?"
"What?" Yang Kai stared at him oddly.
"That day… cough… did you touch?" Su Mu dared not meet Yang Kai’s gaze.
"Touch what?" Yang Kai didn’t understand.
