Well, today's a little burst — there will be four chapters.
*************
It had to be said, even though Long Hui was just another spoiled young master, he knew exactly how to provoke an enemy and create an opening for himself.
Every time he dodged one of Yang Kai's attacks, he'd throw out a mocking remark.
Anyone else would have been driven to fury by now.
Yang Kai seemed no different — eyes burning red, his Yuan Qi surging and unstable, clearly agitated. But if you looked closely, you could see that his gaze was actually quite steady. Even with all the taunting, his resolve to win hadn't wavered in the slightest.
After a stick of incense's worth of fighting, Yang Kai had launched who knew how many strikes, yet he hadn't so much as touched the hem of Long Hui's robe.
Long Hui's mouth was dry from all the ridicule, and inwardly he was growing increasingly bewildered.
Logically, after fighting for this long, the kid should've been running low on Yuan Qi. So why was the power behind each blow just as devastating as the first? His reserves of Yuan Qi simply weren't enough to sustain this kind of onslaught.
Long Hui wasn't wrong — an ordinary Kaiyuan Realm cultivator couldn't keep this up without showing signs of exhaustion. But Yang Kai was clearly no ordinary Kaiyuan Realm cultivator. Engaging him in a battle of attrition was, without question, the wrong call on Long Hui's part.
While he was still thinking, another attack came whistling toward him. Long Hui dodged hastily, but the moment he steadied himself, he heard a sharp tearing sound — a searing strike grazed past his waist and ribs.
He looked down. A gash had been cut in his clothing. That last attack had nearly wounded him for real.
"What a pity!" Yang Kai took a deep breath, the light in his eyes growing brighter with excitement, yet tempered by a steadiness that was its polar opposite. It was a contradictory look, yet the two extremes merged together perfectly.
"How is that possible?" Long Hui's expression changed drastically.
That last strike had clearly been launched in anticipation of where he would land. If not for sheer luck, he might have actually been hit.
But how could the kid have predicted his landing spot? Could it really be that in just a single stick of incense, Yang Kai had already figured out his Golden Rainbow Step?
Impossible! He was only at the Kaiyuan Realm — his eyes couldn't possibly be that sharp!
"Next time, you'll either die or be crippled," Yang Kai said coldly, staring at Long Hui with absolute certainty.
"Bullshit!" Long Hui roared. "You think you can bluff this young master? You're not even close!"
Yang Kai said nothing. He simply lowered his head and attacked like a madman.
Furious, Long Hui abandoned the Golden Rainbow Step this time and met Yang Kai's attack head-on with a punch of his own.
Bang! Yang Kai didn't budge, as immovable as a mountain. Long Hui, on the other hand, felt a surge of scorching Yuan Qi flood into his fist. His body lurched, and he staggered backward.
With a startled cry, Long Hui no longer dared to trade blows with Yang Kai. He hastily deployed the Golden Rainbow Step, trying to put distance between them.
*Whoosh* — a drop of vivid crimson liquid suddenly shot through the air. The instant Long Hui came to a stop, it pierced directly into the right side of his chest.
A scream tore from his throat. Long Hui's face twisted in horror, his hand clamped over his right chest. He gasped for air between ragged breaths, blood foam seeping from the corners of his mouth. "Impossible... impossible... this can't be!"
