Following the old Daoist's directions,
Only, this teleportation formation was nothing like what Chu Feng had imagined.
He had pictured something magnificent — or, if not exactly grand, then at the very least something deeply concealed and secretive.
But in reality, the old Daoist's directions had led him to nothing more than a cave at the base of a mountain.
There wasn't even a barrier gate. It was just a cave sitting right at the foot of a mountain.
Neither impressive nor hidden — anyone who happened to pass by could walk right in and take a look.
There were even traces of small animals having nested inside.
If not for the six large characters carved into the cave wall — "Comprehension, Martial, Realm, Wisdom, Virtue, Dormancy" — Chu Feng would have seriously suspected he had come to the wrong place.
"Chu Feng, could this be a mistake? Is this… really the formation that leads to the Crouching Dragon Martial Sect?"
Even with that clue before her, Her Majesty still found it hard to believe.
After all, to the naked eye, there was absolutely nothing here that hinted at barrier or formation arts. Even the characters on the cave wall looked as though they had been carelessly scratched in with some blunt tool.
"Actually, it's simple. All I have to do is step into the center of the cave, and I'll be able to tell whether this is the real thing."
"But I don't think I even need to try — this should be it."
"Still, I want to observe a little more first," Chu Feng said.
"Didn't your Master already give you the answer?"
The old Daoist had indeed given Chu Feng detailed instructions.
He told Chu Feng that every character inside the formation was a trial, but the most important one was the character for Comprehension.
Step into the formation, and you could comprehend the method to break it — but you only had the time it took for a single incense stick to burn.
After that came a choice: pick one from among Martial, Realm, Wisdom, Virtue, and Dormancy.
Each of the five trials was different. Whichever Chu Feng chose, that would become his test.
But the old Daoist had also warned Chu Feng that, strictly speaking, choosing only one was a guaranteed failure.
To pass the trial, selecting just one would never be enough — he had to pick two.
The old Daoist's recommendation was to choose Martial and Realm.
Furthermore, he had provided Chu Feng with the specific methods to overcome both of those trials.
In short, if Chu Feng followed the old Daoist's instructions to the letter, he should be able to break through the formation.
But his Master had added one final caveat: this trial was, after all, Chu Feng's to face. What the old Daoist had given was merely a suggestion — it could guarantee that Chu Feng passed, but the ultimate decision on how to proceed still lay with Chu Feng himself.
There was also the matter of the Comprehension character. It was a trial in its own right, and arguably the most critical of all. He must not be careless — he needed to genuinely comprehend its meaning.
This was precisely why Chu Feng had confirmed that this was indeed the formation, yet still had not stepped inside.
Once he entered, the trial would begin.
But Chu Feng wanted to observe a little more, to gather insights that would lay the groundwork for what lay ahead.
The problem was, this place was far more extraordinary than it appeared.
It looked simple and unremarkable, but in truth, it was something quite remarkable.
Not only was there nothing visible that resembled barrier or formation art — even when he tried to sense it with his spiritual perception, he couldn't detect the faintest trace of barrier power. Even the characters on the cave wall were written with such casual ease.
If someone arrived here without knowing what it truly was, they would most likely assume it was just an ordinary cave, and that the writing inside had been randomly carved by some passerby.
And against such a cave, even Chu Feng's Heavenly Eyes were powerless. Without the old Daoist's directions, there was no way he could have found this place.
"Eggy, Yusha — I'm going in."
