Chapter 457: Playing the Ghost (Monday, asking for recommendation tickets and monthly votes)

January 17, 2020 · 4 min read · 877 words

Outside the "Brave" pub, a hackney carriage sped lightly by.

Inside the carriage, Klein, wearing a semi-tall silk top hat, and Sharon, still in a black Gothic court dress, sat facing each other.

Looking at his former bodyguard's pale, expressionless face, Klein had no way to make small talk and could only get straight to the point:

"I am ready."

Although Sequence 6 "Faceless" only granted him one supernatural ability, his previous abilities had also been significantly enhanced, thereby greatly increasing his strength—this was the best preparation.

And the ability of "Faceless" itself, in some situations, could be considered a divine skill!

For example, when being chased, or when wanting to sneak in... Klein couldn't help but imagine inwardly.

Sharon listened quietly and then asked concisely:

"Tonight?"

Her tone rose slightly at the end to indicate it was a question.

"If it's okay with you, then it's okay with me." Klein replied, prepared.

"Good." Sharon nodded.

The scene was quiet for a few seconds, then Klein carefully asked:

"Have you heard anything about mermaids? Do you know where to encounter such legendary creatures?"

Sharon stared at Klein without blinking with her blue eyes, as if she had turned into a real doll.

After a while, she said without any emotion:

"In places reachable by human footsteps, there are no more mermaids.

"Only the fishermen of the Gargas Islands, during their long voyages hunting white-tailed whales, occasionally hear the songs of mermaids in storms."

The Gargas Islands are located deep in the Sonia Sea, the farthest human colony on this ocean, known for whale oil, whale meat, and other products.

I wonder if this rumor is true or false... Klein nodded slightly:

"I understand."

…………

The night bells rang out quietly, as if from a very distant place.

In the middle of Williams Street, there was an abandoned small church, withered vines covering the walls, gray stones scattered everywhere.

Inside the small church, feces and debris mingled, with piles of stones and dry grass.

In a half-collapsed corner, a middle-aged man in tight black clothes moved aside the stone hiding the cave entrance and, carrying excavation tools, lighting devices, and a dirt basket, carefully and excitedly entered the tunnel.

He had graying temples and puffy bags under his eyes; he was Baronet Rafter Pound, considered to have a mental illness, a hidden descendant of the Fourth Epoch Tudor family.

This playboy, always entangled with high-class call girls, now wore a serious expression with shining eyes, showing no signs of indulgence in wine and women.

Propping himself on his elbows, he crawled quickly at a downward angle, as if at the end of the tunnel lay the greatest and only hope of his life.

Before long, he touched the damp earth and cold stones ahead.

This did not dampen Rafter Pound's enthusiasm; he repeated the motions he had become extremely proficient in over time.

Digging, moving, transporting, suddenly, the space in front of him opened up, revealing a dark underground hall.

Rafter Pound's expression turned ecstatic and insane; he suddenly reached out and grabbed an iron black emblem.

On the emblem was a hand holding a scepter, making Rafter Pound's eyes shine as if burning.

He had just worn the black iron emblem on his chest when everything in front of him shattered; he was still in the narrow, uneven tunnel, with damp earth and cold stones ahead.

No, besides that, there was someone there quietly "looking" at him.

It was a person without eyes, without a nose, without a mouth, without eyebrows, without ears!

Rafter Pound's pupils contracted, and he felt a numbness rising from below his waist, running along his spine straight to the back of his head.

Without thinking, he abandoned all his tools and frantically retreated.

His elbows hit the ground with a smack, bloodied and mangled, but he felt no pain.

Finally, Rafter Pound exited the tunnel and returned to the abandoned church.

Because he had lost his lamp, he could only see deep darkness and the dim "crimson" light at the edge.

Suddenly, the withered vines crawling on the wall shook like snakes, and a figure walked out from the darkness.

She wore a Gothic court dress and a small black bonnet, with a pale, almost transparent face and inhuman light golden hair and blue eyes.

Rafter Pound almost screamed—a woman like this appearing in such an environment was no different from a ghost story in folklore!

Tap, tap, tap!

He stepped back a few times, nearly tripping over a stone.

Just then, he seemed to remember something, instantly suppressing his fear, and his expression showed a mix of anxiety and hope, excitement and expectation:

"You, you are the evil spirit from the underground hall?

"Yes, it must be you!"

Sir Baronet, you seem to have misunderstood something... "Faceless" Klein emerged from the tunnel and stood quietly in the shadows.

His and Sharon's original plan was to play ghost and scare away Rafter Pound, so he would never dare to explore the underground ruins, but his reaction was somewhat beyond their expectations.

Sharon paused for a second and then asked as if confirming:

"What do you want to say?"

Rafter Pound quietly exhaled and the corners of his mouth curved as he said:
