"Captain, what's going on up there?" Roy whispered to
A slight smile touched Hillman's lips. "That mysterious mage has gotten into a conflict with that mercenary team. We just need to watch from here and not get involved." Hillman himself was only a sixth-level warrior, and he certainly didn't dare interfere.
Just the Rapid Dragon alone was something he couldn't handle. That was without even mentioning the mysterious mage.
The seven-person mercenary team was no weakling either. Five were warriors, and two were mages. Leading the team was a burly man with messy red hair, who sat astride a pitch-black Iron Bull. The bull's two sharp, dark horns gleamed with a metallic sheen.
Its pair of blood-red eyes clearly revealed its identity: a fifth-level magic beast, the Bloodthirsty Iron Bull.
With a snort, the Bloodthirsty Iron Bull exhaled two plumes of white mist from its nostrils.
The mercenary team consisted of seven members: four men and three women. Both mages were women, and one of the women was also an archer. Besides the Bloodthirsty Iron Bull, the entire team also had another magic beast, a giant Griffin, soaring in the air.
A Griffin! A fourth-level magic beast!
It had a lion-like head, and its enormous wings were powerful and mighty. A mercenary team with two magic beasts and two mages—clearly, this was no ordinary squad.
"Young man, you'd better hand over the Deperlo Shadow Diamond," the cold voice of the mysterious mage, who sat cross-legged atop the Rapid Dragon, sounded once more.
"Mage, we have no wish to make an enemy of you, but this Deperlo Shadow Diamond was obtained at the cost of countless efforts and dangers. It is worth a hundred thousand gold coins, yet you wish to take it for seven hundred. That's impossible," the red-haired team leader, with his explosive hairstyle, said solemnly.
Nearby, Lin Lei, standing beside Hillman, heard this and finally understood.
So, this mysterious mage wanted to forcibly buy the 'Deperlo Shadow Diamond,' worth a hundred thousand gold coins, for a mere seven hundred.
"Is the Deperlo Shadow Diamond really that valuable?" Lin Lei was inwardly shocked. "If it's worth that much, it must have some important purpose. Otherwise, it wouldn't have driven that mysterious mage to discard his status and try to seize it by force."
Seven hundred gold coins to buy a diamond worth a hundred thousand—no wonder the mercenary team couldn't agree.
"Hmph." The mysterious mage gave a cold snort.
"I only have seven hundred gold coins on me, and now I'm even willing to spend them to buy it from you. If you still don't know what's good for you, then... not only will you not get a single coin, but you'll also lose your lives." The mage's voice grew colder.
"ROAR~~~"
The Rapid Dragon, which was much taller than most buildings in the small town, let out a low growl, a sound that made the houses lining the street tremble.
"Captain, we got this Deperlo Shadow Diamond by risking our lives. How can we just hand it over to this cowardly, faceless scoundrel?" a woman in black robes said coldly. As veteran mercenaries, these seven had been through many battles and would not compromise easily.
The red-haired captain spoke in a low voice, "Respected mage, I, from the Kailai Family of the Fenlei Kingdom..."
The captain was trying to use his background to apply pressure.
Unfortunately, powerful mages were often eccentric and didn't care a whit about nobility.
"You're asking for death." The mysterious mage let out a low hum.
"Watch out!" The seven members of the mercenary team instantly snapped into a defensive formation. The four male warriors took the front, the female archer pulled out a powerful composite bow from her back, and the two female mages began preparing their magic.
