Chapter Thirteen: The Mystery of the Nine Spirit Pearls

"Boss, you couldn't kill him because of those nine spirit pearls? What even are these nine spirit pearls?" Bei Bei darted to Lin Lei's side as well, curiously observing the nine spirit pearls floating above Lin Lei's palm. "Boss, I don't feel anything special about these nine pearls at all?"

Lin Lei smiled. "When I first met this Tianshan Mansion Lord, I didn't sense anything special about these spirit pearls either. I figured wearing an arm bracer was just his hobby. It wasn't until I failed to kill him several times that I realized how special these spirit pearls were."

How sharp was Lin Lei's eye?

From the very first glance, he had determined that the Tianshan Mansion Lord's arm bracer was no divine artifact, so he had dismissed it as mere decoration and paid it no mind. And indeed, the bracer itself was no divine artifact—Lin Lei could crush its material with a single squeeze. What was truly precious were the nine spirit pearls embedded in it.

"Tianshan Mansion Lord, my guess was correct, wasn't it?"

"Lord Lin Lei!" The deathly pale Tianshan Mansion Lord hurried to answer. "You're right. Your guess is correct. These nine spirit pearls are natural treasures born of the world, containing incredible life energy. As long as one wears these nine spirit pearls close to the body, they provide a ceaseless flow of life force that envelops the entire body—and the soul. Though Lord Lin Lei, your soul attacks are formidable, with this constant stream of energy protecting me, even if my soul takes damage, it recovers rapidly."

At this moment, Morld had nothing left to rely on.

He had originally believed that with these pearls, no one would be able to kill him. Moreover, his own strength was considerable, and paired with the pearls, he ranked among the very top of the commandery lords. That was what gave Morld the confidence to come here in the first place.

Especially upon seeing Lin Lei—an unfamiliar face—he had been brimming with confidence.

But who could have imagined that this Lin Lei was actually a newly emerged Perfect Fullness powerhouse in Hell! Perfect Fullness… the most powerful existence among gods. The spirit pearls could only protect Morld; they could do nothing to enhance his offensive power. Up against Lin Lei, Morld was nothing more than a target!

And now, stripped of those nine spirit pearls, he had even less to fall back on.

"Oh? These pearls are really that special?" Bei Bei muttered in surprise.

"Morld. These spirit pearls—have you bonded with them?" Lin Lei asked flatly.

"No," Morld replied quickly.

Lin Lei willed it, and a drop of blood appeared on his fingertip. The drop flew toward one of the spirit pearls hovering above his palm.

"Drip!"

The blood rolled across the surface of the emerald-green pearl, then slid off and fell back onto Lin Lei's palm.

"It won't even absorb the blood?" Lin Lei frowned.

"Lord Lin Lei, these spirit pearls are miraculous treasures born of heaven and earth—not divine artifacts or anything of the sort. It's impossible to bond with them through blood," Morld explained hastily. Lin Lei glanced at Morld, then closed his hand around all nine spirit pearls. Immediately, he felt a strange energy surge through his entire body. Under his control, this energy even penetrated into his soul.

Comfortable!

Lin Lei could actually feel his soul being nourished and protected by this peculiar energy.

"Truly remarkable. Such treasures can only be born between heaven and earth," Lin Lei remarked with admiration.

"Yes, yes," Morld eagerly agreed.

"Boss, the pearls may be special. But how can you be sure that Morld survived your soul attacks because of them?" Bei Bei said with a pout. "Maybe the pearls are somewhat unusual. But that doesn't mean they're the real treasure keeping him alive. Maybe he has something else inside his body."

Morld's face changed drastically.

"The best way to test it is for you to use your soul attack one more time, Boss. If Morld dies this time, it proves the pearls were the treasure protecting him. If he doesn't die, it means he was lying," Bei Bei said cheerfully. But to Morld, that smile looked utterly sinister and terrifying!

"Morld, what do you think—am I right?" Bei Bei looked at Morld with a grin, though his gaze carried an unmistakable killing intent.

Those words alone were enough to pass a death sentence on Morld.

When it came to ruthlessness, Bei Bei—a divine beast by nature—was even more bloodthirsty than Lin Lei. Anyone who posed a threat to him or Lin Lei, anyone who made a move against them, was someone who, in Bei Bei's mind, needed to be eliminated.

"Boss, as long as this Morld lives, he'll be a threat. Right now he's the Tianshan Mansion Lord and doesn't dare retaliate against you—that's only because he's not strong enough. But if one day he breaks through and achieves Perfect Fullness, he won't fear you anymore. Even if he can't get to you, Olivier would be in danger," Bei Bei transmitted through divine sense.

Bei Bei thought长远—any threat was to be snuffed out.

"Lord Lin Lei…" Morld said in terror.

The Morld before them now was the polar opposite of the arrogant man who had tried to kill them earlier.

"He strikes when he's stronger, and submits when the enemy proves too powerful." Having experienced the brutal battlefields of the plane war, Lin Lei would show no misplaced mercy. "Whoosh!" An invisible wave of sword intent shot suddenly from the center of Lin Lei's brow, so fast that Morld had no chance to react before it plunged directly into his body.

Morld's body trembled, then his eyes dimmed, and he crumpled to the ground.

Clang! A blood-red suit of armor emerged from within his body and clattered to the floor—the defensive main divine artifact.

"This time he's really dead," Bei Bei said with a smile.

Olivier, Dana, and their child Daya walked over. Olivier looked at the dead Tianshan Mansion Lord, then turned to Lin Lei with gratitude. "Lin Lei, thank you. You've helped me again." If the Tianshan Mansion Lord hadn't died, Olivier truly would never have been at ease.

"Thank you, Uncle Lin Lei," Daya said as well, then shot a fierce glare at Morld's corpse, as if placing the blame for his brother Reia's death squarely on the mansion lord.

"I had long prepared for this Morld when it came to dealing with Boning. It's just… I didn't expect Morld to possess such a natural treasure born of heaven and earth." Lin Lei looked down at the nine spirit pearls in his hand and sighed.

"What a waste—this Morld really did have a clone outside after all." Bei Bei let a drop of blood fall onto the armor, but it was not absorbed.
