Chapter 36: Tempest Cave

January 17, 2020 · 6 min read · 1,170 words

This amethyst monster easily slaughtered mid-level and low-level gods. That alone was enough for Olivia to grasp its formidable strength. When they were swept into the mist sea, Bei Bei had once been bombarded by a barrage of amethyst crystals to his abdomen. Olivia had already guessed that Bei Bei's body defense was extraordinarily strong.

Bei Bei was a divine beast, and he was connected to Belute — Olivia could understand why he was so powerful.

But what about Lin Lei?

"Lin Lei actually… he clashed head-on with that amethyst monster!" Olivia stared at the scene before him, completely dumbfounded. He had originally thought that cultivating to the mid-level god realm in just a few short decades was impressive enough — perhaps he had even surpassed Lin Lei.

But the truth…

The gap between him and Lin Lei had only grown wider!

"This thing doesn't fear soul attacks!" Lin Lei's furious shout rang out. He was flung far away, then flipped over and scrambled to his feet, saying in disbelief, "I used my full power with 'Void Sword Wave,' and this monster didn't even flinch!"

"Boss, just use physical attacks!" Bei Bei shouted.

"Right." Lin Lei put away his Black Elyss Heavy Sword and lunged forward once more, diving at the amethyst monster like a giant eagle swooping down on its prey. In his hand, the Purple Blood Soft Sword unleashed the move 'Phantom Shadow,' slashing ruthlessly toward the monster's head.

The amethyst monster dodged in fear.

"Squelch!" The Purple Blood Soft Sword cut into the amethyst monster's shoulder, sinking in a full half meter.

But when Lin Lei pulled the sword back and retreated, the wound instantly healed.

"Boss, this monster doesn't fear soul attacks, and it can recover from any physical wound, no matter how severe." Bei Bei was helpless too. Lin Lei glanced at the long horn he had severed earlier, but the broken horn on the amethyst monster's head had already grown back completely.

Lin Lei couldn't help but smile bitterly.

"Even the strongest high-level god would at least show some reaction if hit by my 'Void Sword Wave,' even if they weren't afraid of it. But this amethyst monster — nothing. Its entire body is harder than a high-level divine artifact. And it heals in an instant!"

Lin Lei was truly at a loss for words. This kind of monster was practically invincible!

"No wonder even those two high-level gods fled," Lin Lei thought, while simultaneously engaging in another fierce exchange with the amethyst monster.

Lin Lei's sword severed one of the monster's sharp horns, but he was sent flying by the monster's claw. Mid-air, he twisted his body and landed firmly on his feet.

The amethyst monster roared in pain — clearly, losing its horn hurt.

"Roar~~" The amethyst monster fighting Bei Bei also stopped. It raised its head and let out a howl.

The one fighting Lin Lei halted as well, staring at Lin Lei for a long while. It seemed to recognize that Lin Lei bore not a single wound, and in the end it gave up, letting out a deep, guttural growl.

The two amethyst monsters glanced at each other. The one that had fought Lin Lei fixed its gaze on him and said in a low, raspy voice: "Body… not bad!"

The amethyst monster that had fought Bei Bei also took a look at him.

"Whoosh!" "Whoosh!"

Two streaks of purple light shot away at incredible speed and vanished.

"Lin Lei, are you alright?" Dilia walked over. Lin Lei smiled and said, "Of course I'm fine. But I have to say, those two amethyst monsters are truly terrifying — practically flawless. Of course… they can't use soul attacks."

"Lin Lei, what happened with those two amethyst monsters? Why did they leave?" Dilia asked, puzzled.

Olivia, standing nearby, spoke up: "Perhaps those two amethyst monsters realized there was nothing to gain from fighting you. They'd only end up wounded, so they gave up." He paused. "And why wouldn't they?"

Lin Lei and Bei Bei had suffered essentially no injuries. Even minor scrapes could be healed with divine power. In a fight like that, the two amethyst monsters naturally had no desire to continue.

"Boss, the chunks I hacked off its body look like amethyst crystals." Bei Bei picked up some purple crystalline fragments from the ground. When he had been fighting the amethyst monster, he had been slashing with his black dagger — a godhead dagger, naturally capable of chipping off crystal pieces.

Lin Lei looked at the two broken purple horns on the ground and collected them into the Coiling Dragon Ring. Sure enough — the two broken horns were instantly refined. A massive amount of soul essence was extracted, leaving behind only a pile of dust.

"So it's true — this amethyst monster's entire body is composed of amethyst." Lin Lei was stunned inwardly. Amethyst contained soul essence. For a monster made entirely of 'amethyst,' just how much soul essence did it hold?

"Boss, did you confirm it? Is it really amethyst?" Bei Bei asked, holding a purple crystal fragment but not entirely sure.

"It is indeed all amethyst," Lin Lei confirmed with a nod.

Bei Bei, Dilia, and Olivia had steeled themselves, yet they were still shocked.

Dilia frowned: "Where did this monster come from? It doesn't fear soul attacks, its entire body is impossibly hard, and it auto-repairs all damage." She couldn't help but admit that such a monster was practically invincible — or rather, it was nearly impossible to kill.

"But I noticed its intelligence seems really low," Bei Bei said.

"It is low. During the fight, it only used its claws and mouth — the most basic attacks. Not a trace of law profoundness," Lin Lei had observed the same thing. "However, at least they can speak!"

Everyone nodded slightly. They all remembered the amethyst monster's final words: "Body… not bad."

"Let's go. Let's see if there's any way to leave this Amethyst Mountain Range," Lin Lei suggested.

The group set off together. But white mist surrounded them on all sides, and Lin Lei and the others had no idea where dangers lurked. Still, by feeling the ground beneath their feet, they could at least determine the general direction and proceeded along a straight line.

While Lin Lei and his group advanced, Jenkins was also making his way through the Amethyst Mountain Range with three mid-level gods, proceeding with great caution. His luck had held — he had made it safely into the mountain range, and so far, they had not encountered any amethyst monsters.

"I wonder how those three lords — Lin Lei and the others — are doing," Jenkins thought to himself.

"Whoosh whoosh~~~" A violent wind howled from up ahead.

"Come on, let's go check it out!" One of the mid-level gods immediately called out. The four mid-level gods, Jenkins included, hurried toward the source of the sound. Moments later, they laid eyes on the source of the fierce wind.

"This is—"
