Chapter Seven: Bloody Battle

January 17, 2020 · 5 min read · 1,093 words

The forces of the Black Dragon tribe and the combined armies of the other two tribes began their unified assault on each other while still several miles apart.

A distance of several miles — at the speed of soul attacks, that gap was crossed in the blink of an eye. Lin Lei and the many ordinary residents of the Black Dragon tribe could clearly see translucent phantom shapes of every description streaking across the sky, striking toward the enemy.

Boom! Some soul attacks collided and canceled each other out midair, but most struck their targets.

Both sides' warriors tried to dodge, to evade those soul attacks. Yet the soul attacks were overwhelming in number, and still quite a few unlucky mid-level god warriors were hit. Once struck... even if they didn't die, their souls would be damaged.

Boom! Boom!

Bodies of warriors from both camps began plummeting from the sky, one after another.

"Senmi!"

"Third Brother!"

The mid-level god warriors were overcome with grief and fury.

"An army made up entirely of mid-level gods fighting like this..." Lin Lei and the other tribe residents watching from behind the army were utterly shocked. "Dozens of mid-level gods killed in an instant. Large-scale battle is truly terrifying!"

Beside him, Bei Bei murmured, "Mm, if there were hundreds of thousands of god-level soldiers in an army and they all attacked together at once, even an upper-level god would be finished, wouldn't he?"

Dilia's face had changed as well.

A battle like this — how could you ever see something like it on the Yulan Continent? Yet in Hell, this was merely a skirmish between tribes.

A scene from the Pantheon Tomb flashed through Lin Lei's mind.

That time on the eleventh level of the Pantheon Tomb, when they had encountered a million Abyssal Blade Demons. Those million demons had simply dove from the sky and slashed in unison. Nearly a million blade energies had come crashing down. Lin Lei and his group had nearly perished.

Whoosh! Several soul attacks suddenly came hurtling toward Lin Lei and the large group around him.

"Scatter!" Lin Lei immediately sent out a divine sense command.

Not just them — most of the Black Dragon tribe's residents dodged as well.

After a number of soul attacks were evaded by their own mid-level god warriors, some of them actually flew straight toward Lin Lei and his group. These were mid-level god soul attacks, and the tribe residents in the rear were mostly lower-level gods. If they were hit, nine times out of ten they'd be finished.

"We really shouldn't be standing behind the army," Bei Bei said with a bitter face. "It's too easy to get caught in the crossfire!"

Lin Lei, however, was watching the battle unfold intently. "It's getting more and more brutal!"

"Physical attacks!" Stranton roared, furious that the two tribes had joined forces against him. On his command, the rest of the Black Dragon tribe's army unleashed their attacks as well.

The battle was escalating!

Whoosh! Cyan sword energy sliced through the sky in an instant. Where it passed, ripples formed in the spatial fabric.

This Hell plane was far more stable than a material plane. On the Yulan Continent, Lin Lei could easily tear through space. But in Hell, being able to produce spatial ripples was already quite something.

Roar! Elemental beasts materialized out of thin air — beasts of every color appearing in the sky, clawing and tearing at each other overhead.

Boom! Thick bolts of lightning also split the sky, crashing toward the enemy.

Hiss! Hiss!

Warriors on both sides fought with wild abandon in midair. When a single mid-level god warrior was struck by several physical attacks at once, he was blasted to atoms! In just one exchange, dozens of divine sparks tumbled from the sky.

"This isn't good!" Lin Lei frowned. "The Black Dragon tribe's army numbers less than two thousand, while the enemy has over three thousand."

In this kind of head-on clash, the Black Dragon tribe was at a serious disadvantage.

"Ha ha ha, Stranton, today you're going to die for sure!" the gaunt, gold-robed man screamed in a shrill voice. The other tribal leader — a brawny man with a tiger's head — also roared, "Brothers, kill them! Wipe them all out! Leave no one alive!"

Stranton's face twisted with malice.

"All children of the Black Dragon tribe — kill every last enemy!" Stranton bellowed.

Instantly, the nearly twenty thousand tribe residents who had been positioned behind the army all drew their weapons and unleashed their most powerful attacks. The sky filled with phantom sword shadows, elemental beasts, and beams of every kind of light.

It was a deluge. Over ten thousand attacks blanketed the enemy in a single wave.

"Kill them!" The Black Dragon tribe's residents held nothing back.

Lin Lei, Dilia, and Bei Bei were stunned.

"Lin Lei, you three, attack!" a booming voice shouted beside them, jolting Lin Lei out of his daze.

He turned to look. Quitt — who normally had refined features and treated everyone with warmth — now had a savage expression, like an enraged lion. He shouted at the three of them, "This is the final moment! If the army falls, we fall too! Those people will slaughter us all! Kill them! Kill!"

Bei Bei was the first to react. He immediately bellowed, "Kill!" and at the same time sent his black dagger streaking forward, trailing arcs of dark light. This black dagger had been a special gift from Beirut himself.

Everyone had gone mad, fighting desperately for survival!

"Kill!" Lin Lei and Dilia also drew their weapons.

No more hesitation, no more targeting specific enemies — they simply slashed and struck at whatever was in front of them. In Lin Lei's hand, the black jade heavy sword launched several earthy-yellow great swords into the air. At first glance these looked like elemental attacks, but in truth they contained the Pulse of the Earth as well.

"Charge! Kill the Black Dragon tribe!" the enemy leader — the tiger-headed brute — roared.

"Charge! Kill!" Stranton bellowed in return.

What had started as ranged combat had now devolved into close-quarters slaughter. Friends and brothers had fallen, and every last person had gone bloodshot-eyed with rage. The two forces tore across the sky and crashed into each other in midair. Hundreds of mid-level gods even plunged directly into the ranks of the lower-level gods.

The gap between a lower-level god and a mid-level god was enormous — especially when hundreds of mid-level gods came charging in.
