Chapter 36: Secret
The City Lord?
Lin Lei’s heart jolted, and at the same time he recalled what Muba had told him—
“Lin Lei, the master of Greenfire City is none other than one of the Five Sovereigns, Lord Greenfire! Lord Greenfire is extremely mysterious, and his strength goes without saying. He rarely shows himself, and it’s uncertain whether he’s even in Greenfire City. The most famous person in Greenfire City, whose status is second only to Lord Greenfire, is Lord Adkins.”
Lin Lei looked at Lei Lin beside him.
“So he is Greenfire, one of the Five Sovereigns of the Gobata Plane Prison?”
The Gobata Plane Prison had existed for an impossibly long time, and the number of god-level powerhouses within it was countless. Yet there were five who stood at the absolute peak, revered as ‘Sovereigns.’ To be called a ‘Sovereign’ within the Plane Prison meant your strength was so overwhelming that anyone with a shred of common sense would understand.
“Adkins, rise. We have already left Gobata, and I am no longer the City Lord of Greenfire City. You do not need to call me City Lord,” Lei Lin said with a faint smile.
Adkins stood up respectfully. “Yes. However, Adkins’s respect for Lord Greenfire will never change.” Berne stood respectfully to the side as well. The name ‘Greenfire’ carried too much intimidating power.
The Five Sovereigns were symbols of invincibility!
“You… you are Greenfire?” Bei Bei stared at Lei Lin in shock.
“Why? I don’t look the part?” Lei Lin raised his red eyebrows, looking at Bei Bei with a smile.
Bei Bei stammered, “No, it’s just that I heard from Boss that Greenfire is one of the Five Sovereigns of the Gobata Plane Prison. Since he’s that powerful, his subordinates should be highgods, right? And… I originally thought ‘Greenfire’ was a name.”
“Haha…”
Lei Lin burst into hearty laughter. “Does the fact that I, Greenfire, don’t necessarily have highgods as subordinates diminish my status and identity?”
Adkins laughed respectfully from the side. “Lord Greenfire, why would he need subordinates? Even if a group of highgods came, they would be nothing before Lord Greenfire.” A joke, of course. Among the Five Sovereigns of the Gobata Plane Prison, which one hadn’t proven their power through slaughter?
Among the Five Sovereigns, Lord Greenfire was actually the one with the shortest cultivation time.
But he was also the most dazzling!
Greenfire ‘Zakrias Lei Lin’ rose from the desolate lands of the Plane Prison, and thereafter won every battle. Even powerful highgods had to submit before Lord Greenfire. To this day, no one could withstand a single attack from Lord Greenfire.
“‘Greenfire’ is just a title,” Lei Lin said with a faint smile.
Adkins, however, said, “The name ‘Greenfire’ was earned by my lord through countless slaughtering, convincing countless experts across all of Gobata, and became a publicly recognized title. That battle at the Blue River all those years ago— who in all of Gobata didn’t know of it?”
Lei Lin just smiled.
Even someone as proud as Adkins had to fawn and curry favor before Lei Lin. In fact, this was simply the truth! Adkins wouldn’t even dare harbor the slightest thought of ‘conflict’ against Lei Lin. Because Adkins knew he couldn’t withstand even a single move from Greenfire!
The battle at the Blue River established the name of Greenfire.
It also terrified countless people. Many even believed Greenfire was the strongest among the Five Sovereigns. Of course, this point was never proven, since Gobata was too vast, the Five Sovereigns were scattered across the land, and they intentionally avoided making enemies of each other. After all, there was no treasure worth fighting to the death over.
“Now this is a true, peerless powerhouse!” A sense of admiration for ‘Lei Lin’ rose in Lin Lei’s heart, accompanied by a surge of fervor.
Even Adkins had to be respectful and submissive before Lei Lin. To be able to reach the pinnacle of power within Gobata.
“Adkins, don’t just stand there. Sit down. Sit next to Lin Lei,” Lei Lin directed.
With Lei Lin’s order, Adkins dared not disobey. He immediately bowed respectfully. “Thank you, Lord Greenfire.” Then he sat down next to Lin Lei, offering Lin Lei a friendly smile at the same time.
Lin Lei could only return the smile.
“Hmph.” Bei Bei, sitting next to Lin Lei, let out a cold snort.
Adkins’s eyebrows immediately shot up. He glanced at Bei Bei, then immediately smiled. “This must be Bei Bei.” Bei Bei only gave a curt acknowledgment, but Adkins wasn’t angered. He smiled, “Bei Bei, I know you’re a bit unhappy. What happened back then was my people’s fault.”
Lin Lei and Bei Bei both looked at Adkins with some surprise.
“What is it, Adkins?” Lei Lin asked.
Adkins said with a smile, “Lord Greenfire, it was actually a minor matter. A midgod named Ogavin, one of my subordinates, had some conflict with Lin Lei’s friends. Later, Ogavin even invited several of my midgods to go to Lin Lei’s location for revenge. However, in the end, it was my people who suffered.”
“Oh?” Lei Lin listened with a hint of interest.
Lin Lei and Bei Bei exchanged a glance.
“Boss, it seems like Adkins wants to apologize?” Bei Bei communicated with Lin Lei via soul link.
“I’m not sure either,” Lin Lei replied, feeling somewhat confused.
Adkins was, after all, a highgod. Was he really going to apologize to them today?
“Berne, come here,” Adkins said. “Although you lost one divine clone in that battle, it was you who started the conflict. Truthfully, it was your fault. You should apologize to Lin Lei and Bei Bei first.”
Lin Lei and Bei Bei were stunned.
Berne actually walked over and said with sincere regret, “Mr. Lin Lei, Mr. Bei Bei, I am truly sorry for what happened back then.”
“Mr. Berne, there’s no need for that. When it comes down to it, it was mainly that Ogavin’s fault,” Lin Lei said. “Mr. Berne, you were likely just deceived.” The other party was giving him face, so Lin Lei naturally returned the gesture.
Adkins nodded. “Lin Lei, rest assured. I guarantee here today that Ogavin will never trouble you again.”
Lin Lei couldn’t help but laugh inwardly.
It seemed Olivir wouldn’t need to hide in that micro-plane secret room anymore.
