*** Cheng Shaofeng and Nu Tao spoke one after the other, laying out the reason they'd come here. Yang Kai felt a mild jolt of surprise. He hadn't expected these two to be so ruthless—escalating a mere dispute to the point of murder.
Just as he was on guard, Hu Meier leaned close and whispered into his ear: "Yang Kai, if you don't want to die, you'd better do exactly as I say. That Nu Tao reached the fifth layer of the Kaiyuan Realm half a month ago—his strength isn't something Cheng Shaofeng can compare to. And now there are two of them. You don't stand a chance."
"You have a way to deal with him?" Yang Kai asked, puzzled.
"I can't deal with him. But they wouldn't dare kill me. As long as you meet my conditions, I'll guarantee your safety."
Given Hu Meier's status, if she insisted on protecting Yang Kai, Cheng Shaofeng and Nu Tao would at least have to give her face. At worst, they'd rough him up a bit to blow off steam.
"No thanks." Yang Kai shook his head slowly.
"You'd rather die?" Hu Meier stared at him as though he were an idiot, her beautiful eyes full of disbelief.
"Sorry, I'm a bit of a germaphobe. Besides, who lives and who dies—that's something you only find out after exchanging blows." Yang Kai regarded the two men opposite him with a calm gaze.
Hearing this answer, Hu Meier's expression shifted through several colors. After a long moment she let out a cold laugh, gritting her silver teeth as she spat: "Fine then—suit yourself!"
With that she retreated several yards and assumed the posture of an indifferent bystander.
Cheng Shaofeng burst into laughter: "Sister Meier, what a good girl. I knew you wouldn't make things difficult for me."
Hu Meier forced out an ugly smile, her thoughts entirely her own.
Nu Tao let out a sinister chuckle and looked Yang Kai up and down. He stood with his hands clasped behind his back, shaking his head in a leisurely manner: "You're called Yang Kai, right? Don't blame me when you reach the underworld. You brought this on yourself by meddling. Will you end it yourself, or shall I do it for you?"
The arrogance was beyond the pale. A faint smile played at the corner of Yang Kai's lips: "If you want my life, come and take it!"
As he spoke, he secretly circulated the True Yang Technique.
No sooner had the technique begun to spin than Yang Kai felt a fierce, scorching heat surge from his chest into his acupoints. This heat carried with it a massive amount of Yang Qi. In an instant his meridians screamed with agony, and a patch of skin on his chest actually sizzled, wisps of green smoke rising as the flesh began to char.
Yang Kai was alarmed, but before he could react, his battered meridians had already adapted. The torrent of Yang Qi continued pouring in without pause.
In the span of a single blink, his meridians were stuffed to bursting with True Yang Energy, swelling and straining.
*Drip.* A sound echoed as though from the depths of his soul—one more drop of Yang Liquid had formed in his dantian.
A moment later, another soft *drip* rang out.
All told, barely three breaths had passed. Two drops of Yang Liquid had taken shape, though one of them mysteriously vanished the instant it formed.
Only then did the ferocious current of Yang Qi finally subside.
The Yangyan Stone! Yang Kai suddenly realized what had happened. He pulled the Yangyan Stone from his chest—the one he'd traded a bottle of Small Recovery Pills for. But this stone, once brimming with Yang energy, now looked nothing like it had before. Every last trace of its power was gone, completely absorbed by him in that brief span of time.
