Chapter 17: Student Life (Part 1)

Most students at Ernst Academy had to stay for decades, so the young men assigned to the same dormitory usually became very close brothers after graduation. At this moment, whether it was Yeru, Rein, George, or Lin Lei, although they were more mature than their peers, they still had the hearts of children.

After just a little conversation, the bond between the four brothers grew much closer.

"Everyone, let's get familiar with the academy today. Tonight, my treat, haha!" Yeru thumped his chest and said generously.

"This guy has a Magic Crystal Card, so why not take advantage of him?" Rein said with a grin.

George and Lin Lei also shared that childish delight and each let out a mischievous giggle.

"Squeak squeak~" At that moment, the little Shadow Mouse 'Bei Bei' suddenly poked its head out from Lin Lei's clothes. The little Shadow Mouse had just woken up and couldn't bear to stay hidden.

"Whoa, what's this thing?" Rein was startled.

"Bei Bei, you're awake?" Lin Lei smiled and patted Bei Bei's head. Bei Bei narrowed its eyes in enjoyment, then its two dark, round little eyes glanced at Rein, Yeru, and George. It twitched its tiny nose twice, as if quite disdainful.

"A Magical Beast, that's a Magical Beast Shadow Mouse, I've read about it in books!" Yeru suddenly exclaimed.

"Lin Lei, you have a Magical Beast?" Rein and George were also surprised.

They were still children, how could they make a Magical Beast submit?

"Bei Bei is just a baby Magical Beast. I just gave it some food, and it took a liking to me. So it formed a contract with me," Lin Lei explained with a smile.

"Heavens, that's a real Magical Beast! Lin Lei, you're really something. I've dreamed of having a Magical Beast since I was little," Yeru said, his eyes shining as he stared at 'Bei Bei'. "Although I have a Soul Contract scroll, making a Magical Beast submit is beyond my strength right now."

Yeru slumped his shoulders in dejection.

"You can't make a Magical Beast submit? Can't even make a baby Magical Beast submit?" Lin Lei asked, still smiling.

Yeru shook his head. "I haven't even reached the level of a first-class magician. With my strength, I can probably only tame the young of first or second-class Magical Beasts. But what would I want with such weak beasts? And the young of seventh or eighth-class Magical Beasts are extremely hard to come by. Moreover, even as babies, seventh or eighth-class Magical Beasts are already much stronger than me."

Lin Lei silently agreed. The little Shadow Mouse 'Bei Bei's' current strength was close to that of a fifth-class Magical Beast, much greater than his own. Yet, after being with Bei Bei for almost half a year, the mouse's size hadn't changed at all. This puzzled Lin Lei and also Derinkoort.

"Lin Lei, your Shadow Mouse is called 'Bei Bei'? Can I hold Bei Bei for a bit?" Rein's gaze couldn't leave the little Shadow Mouse.

"Bei Bei."

Lin Lei immediately used Soul communication to coax 'Bei Bei'.

"No, no way." Bei Bei could already express simple thoughts to Lin Lei through their soul connection. At the same time, 'Bei Bei' bared its tiny fangs at Rein, squeaking "Squeak squeak~~~" continuously, obviously very angry.

Rein could only purse his lips helplessly.

"Rein, let me tell you a way. Bei Bei especially likes roast meat. In the future, just get some roast duck or roast chicken and feed it to Bei Bei often. I believe Bei Bei won't be so hostile towards you," Lin Lei said, smiling. Rein's eyes immediately lit up when he heard this.
