Now that Lord Appraisal's power lets me view my titles too, I decided to appraise them all right away.
『Title: An enhancement code obtained by meeting certain conditions. Upon acquisition, you gain 2 Skills. Some titles carry special effects, while others raise your Stats.』
Huh.
Turns out titles aren't just about getting two Skills for free.
I always assumed that was all there was to them.
Which means my own titles might have had special effects this whole time that I simply never noticed.
Now I'm getting even more excited to appraise them.
Alright, let's go!
『Evil Eater — Acquired Skills: "Poison Resistance LV1," "Corrosion Resistance LV1" — Acquisition Condition: Ingest a large amount of poison or equivalent substances over a set period — Effect: Stomach and intestines become tougher — Description: Awarded to one who treats even poison as food.』
Ah, yeah.
That's fair. Ever since I was born, I've done nothing but eat poison.
No complaints about being called an Evil Eater, really.
Wait—the effect is a tougher stomach and intestines?
Well, I have been eating nothing but poison, so maybe it was helping without me even realizing it?
If I hadn't earned this title and picked up Corrosion Resistance, I might've ascended to heaven the moment I ate that Tanishi bug. So maybe it did quite a lot for me, actually.
The name's a bit much, though.
『Blood Kin Eater — Acquired Skills: "Taboo LV1," "Heterodox Magic LV1" — Acquisition Condition: Devour a blood relative — Effect: None — Description: Awarded to one who has devoured a blood relative.』
Effect: none.
Was there even a point in getting this one?
Having the Skill Taboo alone—which is nothing but a minus—should've been a sign that this was a title I shouldn't have acquired.
And Heterodox Magic is useless to me anyway, so it's not like it balanced things out.
As it stands, this title has only ever worked against me…
『Assassin — Acquired Skills: "Stealth LV1," "Shadow Magic LV1" — Acquisition Condition: Reach a set number of successful surprise-kill assassinations — Effect: Damage bonus on surprise attacks — Description: Awarded to one who has carried out repeated assassinations.』
Ooh.
The acquired Skills were already great, but the effect is pretty fitting too.
This really is the ninja title.
Ninjas did have an assassin side to them, so it's not wrong.
Maybe one day I'll be able to slit someone's throat with a bare-handed sneak attack?
Oh wait—I have claws, so technically I could do that already if I wanted.
『Monster Slayer — Acquired Skills: "Strength LV1," "Durability LV1" — Acquisition Condition: Defeat a set number of Monsters — Effect: Slight increase in damage dealt to Monsters — Description: Awarded to one who has slain many Monsters.』
Ah-ha.
So the number of Monsters I killed really was the key.
I'm not sure exactly what "a set number" means, but by the time I got this title I'd already taken down quite a few.
The effect is nice too. Glad I picked this one up.
『Poison Master — Acquired Skills: "Poison Synthesis LV1," "Poison Magic LV1" — Acquisition Condition: Use a set amount of poison — Effect: Strengthens poison attribute — Description: Awarded to one who has wielded poison.』
Title number one that was insanely useful.
Poison Synthesis has been a lifesaver.
And the effect is incredible too.
It's like this title was made specifically for me.
If only I could actually use Poison Magic—then it'd be perfect.
Hmm, does the acquisition condition care about the potency of the poison, or just the quantity?
If it's purely quantity, then since my poison is pretty potent, I might've actually used less of it than you'd think.
I kept using poison nonstop since the day I was born, yet it took me forever to earn this title. Maybe that's why.
『Thread User — Acquired Skills: "Thread Manipulation LV1," "Slashing Thread LV1" — Acquisition Condition: Perform a set number of thread-based attacks — Effect: Increases attack power with thread — Description: Awarded to one who uses thread as a weapon.』
Title number two that was insanely useful.
This is the title that supercharged my main weapon—thread.
Not much of a spotlight for it in the Middle Layer, though!
But looking at the acquisition condition, the effect, and the description, this title was specifically for using thread offensively.
In my case, Sticky Thread was my bread and butter, though.
Well, that's more of a support tool than an attack, isn't it?
So that's why it took me so long to get this title.
Sticky Thread apparently didn't count as an attack.
Once I started using the Spider Morningstar and Casting Net, those probably counted as offensive actions, right?
If only I'd known the acquisition condition a bit sooner—I could've gotten this a lot earlier.
『Merciless — Acquired Skills: "Heterodox Magic LV1," "Heterodox Resistance LV1" — Acquisition Condition: Commit a merciless act — Effect: You stop feeling guilt — Description: Awarded to one who is merciless.』
Totally vague across the board.
At least put some effort into the explanation.
The acquisition condition is way too vague, don't you think?
Hmm—the effect is underwhelming too. Overall, just a mediocre title.
『Monster Slaughterer — Acquired Skills: "Brute Force LV1," "Toughness LV1" — Acquisition Condition: Defeat a set number of Monsters — Effect: Increased damage dealt to Monsters — Description: Awarded to one who has slaughtered a massive number of Monsters.』
Yep.
This is completely the upgraded version of Monster Slayer.
Probably activates once you've killed more Monsters than it takes for Monster Slayer.
The effect and description certainly suggest that.
『Lord of Pride — Acquired Skills: "Abyss Magic LV10," "Naraku" — Acquisition Condition: Obtain "Pride" — Effect: Increases MP, magic, and resistance stats. Adds a bonus to Proficiency gains on Spirit-type Skills. Grants Ruler-class privileges. — Description: Awarded to one who has mastered Pride.』
Wait.
Hold on. Hold on a second.
What the heck is that effect?!
So you're the reason my Stats suddenly skyrocketed?!
And not only that—you're adding a Proficiency bonus on top of that too?!
When Pride's own effect was already giving me a bonus?!
So that's why Prediction and everything else leveled up so freakin' fast!
Also—what are "Ruler-class privileges"?
『Ruler-class Privileges: Authority granted to a Ruler to manage a portion of the world.』
Huh?
What's that supposed to mean?
Can I use it too?
《A request to exercise privileges has been received from the Lord of Pride. Currently, there are no privileges that the Lord of Pride can exercise.》 So there aren't any?!
Ugh, seriously, what even is this?
Pride's Skill is way too mysterious.
Well, at least I learned a bunch about my titles.
Lord Appraisal really is reliable, as always.
There were some errors in a portion of the Status screen from before, plus Merciless was missing, so I've corrected it.
