Even after becoming a count and officially taking on the role of a retainer to the Royal Family, his relationship with them remained unchanged—in fact, it was the Royal Family that seemed to tread more carefully around him. When Tenma first began improving the Ootori domain, several nobles had been scheming on how to win his favor, but because Tenma had used his strength to carry out the construction of major highways and towns before they could act, their efforts came to nothing.
Among his children, Touma, Touka, and Allen had grown attached to him, but Shouma and Kulto were less fond of him—though this was simply because Tenma was away from home so often for work that they hadn't had time to warm up to him yet.
In later years, some would claim that the constructions Tenma had been involved in were completed too quickly and that records had been doctored. However, because the same entries appeared in record books held by the Royal Family and multiple noble houses, it was ultimately acknowledged as fact, albeit one with many inexplicable aspects.
Beyond that, the Ootori domain during Tenma's active years was considered a kingdom in its own right, and since the family had formed an alliance with the Southern Viscount family—who had been elevated to viscount—it was widely assessed that even if every force outside the Ootori and Southern Viscount families united to wage war against them, victory would be impossible.
Primera
She had passed thirty, yet she looked virtually unchanged from her younger years—if anything, her figure had improved—which made her a frequent topic of conversation among noblewomen. A considerable number of nobles even traveled all the way to the Ootori domain to investigate whether the family possessed some kind of youth-preserving elixir, though so far no one had gotten close to the truth. For the record, while Primera did use special shampoo, conditioner, and toner that Tenma had made, the vast majority of her appearance was simply due to her natural constitution and the healthy lifestyle she led.
After the war, Tenma's wives had increased all at once, but since engagements to Jeanne and Amour had been promised well in advance—and he had sensed that the same would happen with Chris—the only real impression she had was that the household had suddenly gotten livelier. If anything, she was glad that the rapidly expanded central part of the Ootori family could be anchored by women she could trust.
It was only after Shouma was born that she truly realized, belatedly, just how demanding child-rearing could be.
Touma
The eldest son of the Ootori family. His features were more reminiscent of the Duke Sanga bloodline than of Tenma, though his hair was darker than that of Duke Sanga and the others. He was so composed for his child that both Tenma and Namitarou suspected he might be a reincarnator. They tested this hypothesis several times—speaking to him in languages from their past lives and watching his reaction, using Appraisal to check whether anything in his Status was unusual—and ultimately concluded that the possibility was extremely low.
Despite his young age, he was remarkably capable, sharp, and skilled at navigating social situations, so he was rarely scolded.
Touka
She looked like a younger version of Primera—a black-haired girl. She was well-behaved and often looked after the younger children, though she also showed a strong-willed side. Like Touma, she was gifted beyond her years with a keen sense for social maneuvering and a sharp mind, so the number of times she had been reprimanded by Tenma and the others could be counted on one hand.
For a time, she and Touma had argued over which of them was the elder—sister or brother—but the matter was quickly settled in Touma's favor. The reason was that Yoshitsune, who had come to visit the Ootori family, had caught her eye at first sight, and she had set her sights on becoming his fiancée; at that point, she realized that being the younger sibling rather than the older would pose fewer obstacles.
Shouma
Primera's third child. After the succession of undemanding children that were Touma, Touka, and Allen, the family had let their guard down—only to find that Shouma was extraordinarily high-maintenance (or perhaps it was more accurate to say the older three had been unnaturally easy). Within the Ootori family, it was said that his features resembled Tenma's the most among all the siblings.
Once he started crying, it was nearly impossible to get him to stop—for some reason, however, he would quiet down immediately whenever he was left in Slarin's care.
Jeanne
After the war, she married Tenma on Primera's recommendation—at least, that was the official story. Her title was Second Wife, though within the Ootori household the distinction held little practical meaning.
For her significant contributions to the victories of both the Eastern and Western sides during the war, the fallen House of Almeria was granted restoration along with a viscountcy. However, since the original territories were located far from the Ootori domain, she was given lands adjacent to the Ootori territory instead. The condition was that until any children born between Tenma and Jeanne in the future reached adulthood, the lands and title would be held in trust by the Ootori household, with the Ootori family bearing responsibility for their management in the meantime.
Although the Ootori household belonged to the Royalist Faction, they wielded influence over the Neutral Faction on par with the royal family itself.
Allen
Jeanne's eldest son, who always looks sleepy. He is the same age as Aina's daughter, but he doesn't play around much.
Since infancy, he rarely cried or laughed, which had worried people for different reasons than Shouma and Kuruto. After various investigations, the conclusion was reached that his emotions simply don't show on the surface. The knights and townspeople, meanwhile, whisper that since he never cries no matter who pats or picks him up, he might just turn out to be the greatest figure the Ootori household has ever produced.
Amour
After the war, she married Tenma as a token of friendship with the Southern Count's family, though they have no children together. Although she technically holds the title of Third Wife, she continues her adventurer activities and travels to various parts of the Ootori domain alongside other adventurers, so the locals call her "the most famous wife in the Ootori household."
Under the guise of education, she used to climb up to rooftops with Touma and the others on her back when they were babies, showing them the scenery. Everyone got furious with her—Chris especially—but she had brought Slarin along as insurance to ensure the children's safety, and the children themselves were delighted (though only Touma and Touka were happy about it; Allen looked sleepy as always, and Shouma and Kuruto were bawling their eyes out). Eventually, nobody bothered getting angry anymore.
Among Tenma's wives, she is the one who spends the most time playing with the children.
Chris
After the war, she left the Imperial Guard and, on the strength of her prior accomplishments, obtained a viscountcy and land before marrying Tenma. As for her injuries, Tenma healed them perfectly—not a trace remains.
Many nobles wanted to take Chris, who held a viscountcy and had ties to both the Ootori household and the royal family, as a wife or concubine, but she ignored them all and barged into Tenma's life. Amour turned her away on the surface, but Primera and the others accepted her, so she became part of the Ootori household and more or less forcefully claimed a seat among Tenma's wives. By order of marriage, her title became Fourth Wife. The viscountcy is held by Chris, while the lands are in the Ootori household's care.
After the war, when she gained her own territory, she had expected her former family to come demanding something. As it turned out, her father had wavered over whether to defect to the Reformist Faction on the battlefield, and in the end died in battle alongside the heir. What's more, most of the participating relatives served in the same army and perished at the same time. To make matters worse, their deaths came after actions that could only be interpreted as attempted defection, so the family was stripped of its holdings.
The surviving relatives came to the Ootori domain seeking Chris's help. She took in the ones worth keeping and turned the rest away.
Kuruto
Chris's eldest son, who is expected to inherit Chris's viscountcy someday.
For this reason, Chris wanted to start giving him an appropriate education early, but everyone around her told her that was going too far. Like Shouma, he cried frequently, which had people worried, but they were reassured when people outside the Ootori household told them that at his age, this was perfectly normal.
Merlin
Living in a state that was practically a comfortable retirement, he was the freest member of the Ootori household. He generally spent his time looking after the children, but recently Primera and Maria had been warning him more and more that he was spoiling them too much.
In order to watch over the children's growth, he often joined the knights' training in hopes of living even a little longer. Unlike Alex, though, people believed he could sustain injuries without worry—or rather, given the gap in their abilities, he couldn't so much as receive a scratch under normal circumstances—so no one had any trouble finding a sparring partner. If anything, they were grateful, as they learned a great deal from facing him.
All concerned are convinced that Merlin will live to be at least a hundred years old.
Din
When Tenma became a baron, Din was formally declared a viscount under the Ootori household and appointed head of the Ootori retainers (though when Din took the position of head, there were no other retainers, and only afterwards did the Dawn Sword members and Kelly join, so for a while he went without using the title of "head").
As the number of retainers grew and a knight order was formed, he also took on the role of knight commander.
He has a soft spot for his daughter and wants to provide her with an education that will hone her talent as a knight, but since she has no interest in it, for now he keeps things limited to basic exercises disguised as play.
Aina
When the Ootori household became a baron family, she married Din and officially became the Ootori household's head maid. She is technically the viscount's wife, but having maids serve her as a lady of the house doesn't suit her temperament, and above all, she was worried about entrusting Aura with the role of head maid — that was the reason for her appointment.
As for Tenma himself, the Ootori household was in a remote area but there was a high probability of high-ranking nobles visiting, so he had been anxious about Aura's suitability — this arrangement was a godsend.
Aina's daughter
She imitates Aina and often helps out with the maids' work. However, it still feels like playing house, so she makes many mistakes, and so far she's only been allowed to do things where mistakes won't have much impact. She apparently wants to try other things as well, but Aina won't let her.
When she was first born, other nobles speculated that she might become Allen's fiancée since they were the same age, but Tenma and the others only think of it as "that would be nice if it happened."
Right now she's absorbed in playing at being a maid, but according to Din's assessment, she also has considerable talent for combat.
Aura
When the Ootori household became a baron family and Jeanne became Tenma's wife, she had hoped that she might become the Ootori household's head maid, but her spirits sank when it was quickly decided she would become Aina's subordinate. However, she soon realized that being head maid herself would mean dealing with people like Maria under her own responsibility, and furthermore, given the Ootori household's growing prominence, there was a high chance of various nobles visiting. She now feels grateful that she didn't get the position.
She serves as a caretaker and instructor for the new maids. Though she herself has grown as a maid, her innate clumsiness hasn't improved much, so while the frequency has decreased, she still makes mistakes from time to time.
Namiitarou
He continues to live his carefree life as always. He often plays with Tenma's children, and Touma and Touka frequently pull rather extreme pranks (or rather, use him as a magical target) on him, but he doesn't mind at all. In fact, he actively volunteers as their target. He finds Allen somewhat difficult since he gets no reaction no matter what he does. Shouma and Kuroto cry whenever they see him, but for Namiitarou, that reaction is actually one of the reasons he comes to the Ootori household.
He generally spends his time in the form of a koi fish, though he has occasionally been spotted swimming or flying in his ancient dragon form.
When Namiitarou visits, there's a high probability of seafood being served, so he's quite popular among the knight order members without anyone really admitting it.
Alex (former king)
When he announced that he would cede the throne to Caesar, not a single person tried to stop him, so he felt a little down about it internally.
Because there were handover procedures, his relocation happened later than Maria's, but nowadays he's more at home in the Ottoiri domain than Maria is.
He's frequently seen training alongside Merlin with the Ottoiri household knights under the pretext of maintaining his health, but only a handful of members will actually spar with him, so he feels a bit lonely.
He sometimes acts as an advisor to Tenma, who is said to be slightly above average when it comes to political maneuvering with the nobles, but in Tenma's case, he can generally brute-force his way through most situations, and if you push too hard with Tenma, the Duke Sanga family will get involved, so he rarely offers any serious advice.
Like Merlin, he tends to spoil the children and often gets scolded by Maria for it.
Maria
Considering her influence after abdication, she moved her main base to the Ottoiri domain and is enjoying a slow life there with Alex, ostensibly to keep an eye on Tenma and serve as a hostage under the guise of not getting in the way of Isabella, the new queen.
Her recent hobbies include spending time with Touma and the others, gardening together with Marsa and company, and cooking with the vegetables they harvest.
Even now, nobles still come to visit the Ottoiri domain under the pretense of paying their respects, but she essentially never meets with them alone—at minimum, she makes sure Aina or Primera is present.
Caesar
When Alex's abdication was declared, Caesar ascended to the throne without a single objection from anyone. Although he occasionally shows a cold-hearted side, he is regarded as the ideal king given his platform of postwar reconstruction and development.
Currently, he is scheming to somehow push Luna into becoming one of Tenma's wives, in order to ensure the Ottoiri family—now forging ties with multiple powerful nobles—does not break away from the Royalist Faction (with a time horizon of several hundred years in mind).
Tida
He steadily accumulated experience, and though he didn't carry out any particularly noteworthy exploits in the last war, he faithfully followed Caesar's orders and executed them successfully, so he earned high marks from those involved. Since there were no other viable candidates, he took the position of Crown Prince without any issues.
His relationship with Amy is going well—they're still engaged, so he hasn't made any moves yet, but among those close to them, it's generally expected that they'll have children right away once they're married.
He respects Tenma and is working hard to maintain a good relationship with him, and he's been getting better at behind-the-scenes maneuvering by using Caesar as a model.
His recent worry is that certain influential nobles keep recommending concubine candidates to him.
Amy
Although she comes from commoner origins, her backers—the Ottoiri family—performed brilliantly in the war and became nobles, and along with the Silphild family and Duke Sanga's house, also backers, their influence has grown, so no one is in a position to object to Amy becoming Crown Princess.
That said, there are quite a few nobles who worry that a commoner becoming the nation's future queen could set a bad precedent. However, in contrast, she is enormously popular among the general public (especially those in the lower to middle classes), her personal qualities are excellent, and apart from her bloodline, there is absolutely nothing to criticize.
Later investigations revealed that the royal family announced she was actually of noble blood, though the truth of the matter remains uncertain.
Luna
During the war, she was highly praised for her contribution to flushing out discontents by using herself as bait.
After the war, she had shown growth as a proper lady, which put Maria and the others at ease, but her essential nature hadn't changed much. If anything, one could say she had become more troublesome, since she'd gotten better at hiding it.
When told that Tida and Amy were going on a trip under the guise of an inspection, and that she was to stay behind in the Royal Capital to watch the house, she decided to secretly tag along while hiding among the luggage. However, this behavior was actually expected by Caesar, and she was deliberately allowed to go as part of a scheme to further strengthen her relationship with Tenma.
Jin
One way or another, he ended up marrying Menace, but his way of dealing with her hasn't changed much—witnesses frequently spot him being scolded.
With Garat and the others assisting him, he works as a unit commander in the knights' order. Most of his subordinates are former adventurers with all sorts of bad habits, but he somehow manages. On the other hand, he is one of the people Tenma trusts most, so he often gets personally invited out to meals, which frequently earns him jealous glares.
He doesn't realize it yet, but he's about to become a father.
Garat
Together with Menace and Lina, he assists Jin in the knights' order.
When he was hired by the Ottoiri family, he formally married his fiancée from back home. For the first few years, he had her called to the Royal Capital to live with him, but when the Ottoiri family relocated (though the Royal Capital mansion was kept as a townhouse), he moved with his wife's family to the Ottoiri territory. However, in contrast to his good relationship with his wife's family, his relationship with his own family turned sour, and they ended up estranged.
Since a baby boy was recently born, he's been the most eagerly hardworking member of the Dawn Sword.
Menace
One way or another, she ended up marrying Jin, but her way of handling Jin hasn't changed at all. However, as Jin has risen to a higher rank within the knights' order and was already well-known to begin with, quite a few women have been approaching him, so she's always keeping a watchful eye out.
Neither she nor Jin are aware of it yet, but a new life is growing in her womb.
Lina
Like the others, she was hired by the Ottoiri family and assists Jin alongside Garat and Menace.
As a former noble lady, she frequently teaches the knights proper etiquette. Being single, she's quite popular with the men, but she herself seems to have no desire for marriage, as rumors about her with men are rarely heard. With an income far higher than that of ordinary men, she's thoroughly enjoying her life as a single noblewoman.
On her days off, she often meets up with Primera, so she's become well-loved by the Ottoiri family's children as well.
The person who was instantly defeated at the martial arts tournament where Tenma made his first appearance.
His reputation tanked immediately after the match, but once the tournament ended and word of Tenma's abnormality spread, his evaluation ultimately only dipped a little. That said, his bout with Tenma left him traumatized, and his condition deteriorated so badly that his adventurer rank nearly dropped. Over time, however, he managed to recover, and after switching from an attack-oriented to a defense-focused fighting style, he came to be regarded as a capable and reliable veteran.
After the war, on Jin's recommendation—having heard of Ogo's reputation—he joined the Ottoiri family's knight order and now leads the defense squad. His personality has mellowed and he looks after others well, making him quite popular among his junior (male) colleagues.
Married. His wife is Midia Oriol, who was described as a "late bloomer" compared to Lina.
"Bonus"
Midia Oriol
Her family were Reformist nobles, but in reality they belonged to a moderate faction that did not approve of opposing the royal family, which earned them the contempt of the radical wing within the Reformists.
When the war broke out, she got hold of intelligence that a faction of the radicals planned to attack the Oriol estate, so she immediately tried to evacuate from their territory to the Royal Capital—but was ambushed by the radicals along the way.
Ogo happened to be nearby on a commission and came to her rescue, and she fell in love at first sight. That was when her taste in men shifted from handsome pretty boys to brawny muscle men. Afterward, the Oriol family managed to evacuate safely to the Royal Capital and switched their allegiance to the Royalist Faction. Though they did not accomplish anything noteworthy during the war, by never opposing the royal family and bringing intelligence on the Reformists, they not only avoided being dissolved but, conversely, the Ottoiri family became one of the few former Reformist families to have their territories increased.
After moving to Ottoiri territory with Ogo, she became one of the points of contact for noblewomen from other families who sought audiences with Primera.
Milly, Lily, Nelly
During the war, they had evacuated to Gunjou City along with their family, but swarms of zombies attacked the city and its surroundings. Fortunately, no family members were casualties, but their family home was completely destroyed, and the fields they owned were contaminated by the zombies, rendering them useless.
Right after the war, the entire family stayed in Gunjou City and helped with reconstruction, but once they learned that Tenma had become a noble and obtained territory, they quickly convinced the family to relocate to Russell City. Then, as Tenma began building what would become the central town of Ottoiri territory, they joined in the effort and, biding their time, were the very first to request permanent settlement.
With strong connections to Tenma and Primera, they became the first commoners to relocate. For now, the three of them work primarily as adventurers, but they hope to join the household retainers in the future. Their family participates in the farming initiative led by the Ottoiri family and earns wages.
She once schemed to become Tenma's concubine, but since she couldn't make Tenma interested and faced strong pressure from her family, she gave up. That said, she still visits the Ottoiri household frequently and is often seen playing with the children alongside Amour.
