After hanging up, Shi Feng quickly wolfed down a few bites of instant noodles and rushed off to school.
It wasn't until he was already on the road that Shi Feng remembered this matter, because it was one of the reasons his parents had fallen gravely ill.
In his previous life, he and Hei Zi had joined the Shadow Guild. When Zhao Ruoxi called to notify him to come to school, he didn't go. Instead, he kept playing Divine Realm. He had finally made it into the Shadow Guild, and if he wanted to rise through the ranks, he needed to perform well in the game. Where would he find the time to deal with something trivial like a class matter?
As a result, he lost his university recommendation qualification. Even though there was only one recommendation, it could help the recommended student land a better job. After all, the job market was incredibly competitive, and finding work was extremely difficult. Having that recommendation was a stepping stone to a higher position.
When his parents found out about this, they were deeply worried.
That worry added a tremendous amount of mental stress to them. They never showed it, though. Instead, they encouraged him, telling him not to worry about the family's debts. In the end, worn out both physically and mentally, both parents fell seriously ill a year later.
In this life, he wasn't going to make the same mistake. Even though that recommendation qualification was completely useless to him now, he still wanted to know what reason had caused him to lose it in the first place.
His grades in class were solidly average, and there was no issue at all with getting the recommendation. Yet when graduation came, it wasn't his. The only thing he could think of was what was about to happen today.
Walking into the university, Shi Feng noticed something interesting.
Today, the campus was packed with an unusual number of students — a sea of people. Normally, the school was never this crowded. Students would be out socializing and having fun, or studying in the library. At worst, they'd be holed up in their dorms playing games. They wouldn't be wandering around campus like this.
When Shi Feng entered Building 3, he found that classrooms that were usually half-empty were now bursting at the seams, each one claimed by a different class.
"What's going on today?" Shi Feng wondered to himself.
The moment he stepped into Classroom 401, he could feel that something was off about the atmosphere. Every classmate turned to look at him, their expressions full of surprise, as if something that shouldn't exist had just appeared.
The guys merely glanced at him and paid him no further attention, continuing their conversations.
A few of the more fashionably dressed girls shot him looks of disgust. He was long used to that. But when he started to look back, they immediately turned their heads away.
"Shi Feng, you're here. Find a seat. We'll be all together once Lin Feilong arrives," said the class monitor, Zhao Ruoxi, in a flat tone, as though speaking to him was nothing more than a formality.
However, Shi Feng vaguely sensed that the brief glance Zhao Ruoxi had cast his way earlier held a trace of anticipation — though it wasn't directed at him. It was probably for the Lin Feilong she had mentioned.
"Sure." Shi Feng nodded and found a random corner to sit in. As for joining the other guys in their chat, one look at their eyes told him that was out of the question.
All Shi Feng could do was smile bitterly. In his past life, he really had been a failure as a person...
But there was nothing he could do about it. Every time there was a class gathering or activity, he had skipped it to save money. He had long since become invisible in the class. In everyone's eyes, he was probably just a loner.
"How come this guy showed up?"
"The class monitor must have told him. I can't believe he actually came."
