The moment Shi Feng used the legacy scroll in the bottomless abyss, his vision was instantly plunged into utter darkness, as though everything had reverted to the moment he'd entered the dark vortex in the core chamber. His body was overcome with a disorienting sensation of spinning through space.
Legacy scrolls were treasured above all else by every major superpower in the Divine Realm — some were even willing to trade fragments of Legendary-grade items for one. The reason was simple: they granted a player another attempt.
On the surface, that effect hardly seemed extraordinary. But for a player undergoing their Tier 4 class advancement, it was nothing short of a godsend.
Under normal circumstances, a legacy ground could only be challenged once. The moment a player died, they were immediately expelled from the grounds. By the time they found their way to another legacy ground, it would be an entirely different one — much like how no person could ever step into the same river twice.
In the Divine Realm, there were no second chances at Tier 4 legacy grounds. Every grounds a player entered was a fresh one, offering no benefit from previous experience.
For players, the difference between gaining a wealth of experience from a legacy grounds and gaining none was night and day when it came to class advancement success rates. That was precisely why the major superpowers were willing to trade fragments of Legendary-grade items for legacy scrolls.
To ordinary players, such trades seemed foolish. But the gap between Tier 3 and Tier 4 was as vast as the distance between clouds and mud — and that gap only widened as levels rose, because the probability of encountering opportunities afterward was entirely different for each tier, to say nothing of the inherent stat disparity.
After the darkness before Shi Feng persisted for a brief moment, he once again appeared high above the spot where he had originally entered the legacy ground, plummeting toward the bottomless abyss below. Every magic skill had been reset — it was as though time itself had been rewound.
"Good!"
Shi Feng checked his weapons and found that every skill imbued in his equipment was exactly as it had been when he first entered. Without a moment's hesitation, he activated Gale Domain's aerial flight, transforming into a streak of black light that shot toward the distant cliff wall.
Last time, he had wasted considerable time observing the legacy grounds while airborne, so that by the time he finally activated aerial flight, he was already enduring tremendous gravitational force. Not only had his movements become sluggish, but his speed had been severely diminished.
This time, however, he launched aerial flight the instant he began falling. His movement speed was more than double what it had been before — in less than fifteen seconds, he reached the cliff wall with plenty of flight time to spare.
"Break!"
Shi Feng unleashed Mana Combat Technique — Light and Shadow — directly at the cliff face before him.
In midair, a phantom greatsword materialized and slashed down at the wall with tremendous force.
Boom!
A deafening explosion rang out as countless fragments of rock scattered in every direction. But in the next instant, Shi Feng froze in disbelief.
The phantom greatsword had carved a gap barely one person high into the cliff face — just enough for a single person to stand inside…
"The power of Light and Shadow has been weakened this much?" Shi Feng frowned as he studied the gash in the wall.
This was his full-power strike, yet its strength was far below his estimates. Forget matching the power of an advanced Legendary skill — it barely reached mid-tier Legendary force. If he tried to pit this against the dark hatchling's dragon breath, he would be signing his own death warrant.
Still, Shi Feng couldn't afford to waste time. He unleashed Light and Shadow at the cliff wall once more.
After seven or eight consecutive strikes, the effect of aerial flight finally expired, leaving Shi Feng perched on a reasonably stable foothold on the cliff face — enough to give him at least some room to dodge when the dark hatchling attacked.
