I am a spider.

I don't have a name yet.

Huh? What's with the sudden outburst?

I heard I don't have a name, so I figured I'd try saying it out loud.

What's this all about?

To explain that, I need to go back a bit.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * I checked my size and was dumbfounded.

I mean, come on!

Being reincarnated as a spider is already shocking enough, but on top of that, I'm a monster.

This sucks.

Depending on the person, this might be depressing enough to just end it right then and there.

Well, I'm not quite at the point of wanting to die, though.

Still, I can't just sit around moping.

If this is another world and not Earth, who knows what kind of dangers lurk around every corner.

There's no guarantee something like that giant spider isn't hiding somewhere else.

Speaking of that giant spider — judging from my own size, it had a body length of around thirty meters…

Could someone even take that thing on?

All I can do is pray that the people who left those footprints don't run into it.

Oh, but heavy weaponry might change the equation.

And fantasy staples like magic — maybe those exist here too?

If so, maybe I could put up at least some kind of fight against that giant spider?

I have no idea.

But I'm pretty sure that thing is an absolute boss-class enemy.

Or rather, if it isn't, I won't survive in this place.

Wait — I've been assuming from the start that humans would be the ones fighting that giant spider, but isn't that a massive problem?

Because right now, I'm probably the child of that giant spider.

A monster baby, if you will.

Yeah.

This is no time for jokes.

There's a very real chance that if I encounter a human, I'll be killed.

That's entirely possible.

Actually, the odds are pretty high.

What do I do?

I want information about humans, but if a human spots me, I might get killed.

Ugh.

This isn't working.

I have too little information to make sense of anything.

What kind of world is this?

What are the people here like?

How would a monster like me be treated in this world?

There are a million things I want to know, but I have no way of finding out.

Ugh, in a novel this is where you'd use something like an Appraisal Skill to gather info…

《Current Skill Points: 100.

Skill "Appraisal LV1" can be acquired for 100 Skill Points.

Would you like to acquire it?》 …Seriously?

A mechanical voice suddenly echoed inside my head.

So that's how it is.

It exists.

Appraisal Skill — it's real!

Heck yeah!

I'm getting fired up!

Isn't this getting more and more like a proper reincarnation-in-another-world story?!

My answer is YES, obviously!

《"Appraisal LV1" has been acquired. Remaining Skill Points: 0》 Looks like I burned through all my Skill Points, but I'm sure they'll increase as my level goes up. No point worrying about it now.

Buuut!

Right now, my top priority is using my long-awaited Appraisal Skill to investigate everything around me!

…How do I even use it?

Okay, first things first — I'll do it the textbook way. I'll focus on one of the random rocks lying around and mentally say "Appraise."

Hmm!

It feels like it worked!

Information flows smoothly into my head.

"Rock"

…Huh?

That's it?

No, no, no.

That can't be right.

It's my first time, so I probably messed it up. Let me try again.

"Rock"

…Wait.

Seriously? That's really all it says?

No, no, no, no.

It must be because this rock is so worthless it's literally just a rock!

Okay, let me try appraising the wall instead.

Maybe I can figure out what kind of place this is.

Something like "Such-and-such Cave" — if I can at least get a name and description, it'd put my mind at ease.

"Wall"

………

I'm not even going to bother.

I really should have thought more carefully about the fact that it's specifically called Appraisal LV1.

Meaning at LV1, it can barely do anything useful.

Maybe I could raise its level, but I've already spent all my Skill Points.

Ugh!

What a colossal waste!

I don't know what other skills were available, but maybe there was something more useful even at LV1!

No — let me look at it the other way.

If Appraisal is this useless at LV1, then every other skill would've been just as underwhelming at LV1 too.

Yeah. I'll go with that.

Otherwise, I'll never get over it.

Sigh.

I might as well appraise myself while I'm at it.

"Spider Name: None"

Huh?

I expected "Spider" to come up, but "Name: None"?

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * And that brings us back to the beginning.

No name.

I guess my previous life's name doesn't count — I don't have a name as this spider, in this life?

Anyway, let's put the useless Appraisal Skill aside for now.

Actually, the Appraisal Skill has only raised more questions.

Skill Points.

I'm guessing that if I accumulate these points, I'll be able to acquire new skills.

The problem is, I have no idea how to earn them.

If this world has a leveling system, then leveling up would probably grant points.

That's assuming it exists, though.

Levels, skills, points — this really is a game-like world.

If it is, then so be it!

I mean, I'm a monster spider now. It's not like I can live a normal life. Oh, wait — since I'm a spider, it wouldn't be a "life," it'd be a "spider-life."

Anyway, if I was born as a spider in this game-like world, then I'm going to live it up — spider-style — treating this whole thing like a game and having a blast doing it!

First things first, though — I'm starving.
