Let me rewind time just a little.
The place I teleported to was inside a town.
Because this was my first time teleporting without a Skill, I ended up slightly off from my target coordinates.
I managed to appear in an empty back alley, but one wrong step and I could've ended up fused inside a wall or merged with someone else — truly terrifying possibilities.
"Huh? Where am I? Who am I?"
I dragged the half-asleep Demon King along with me.
The main streets were packed with people trying to evacuate, so I moved by jumping across rooftops.
"Hey, hey. Can you explain what's going on already?"
The Demon King asked with an exasperated tone, so I reluctantly explained.
"There's a reincarnator in this town, and I happened to see them in a pinch, so I'm going to rescue them."
"White-chan just spoke!? And that was a whole paragraph!?"
How rude.
I speak when I have something to say.
Well, the Demon King was pretty much the same species as me, so maybe that's why I felt comfortable chatting freely.
"Huh. A reincarnator, though. That's unexpected. I figured someone like White-chan would find that kind of thing a hassle and avoid getting involved."
"I wouldn't go out of my way to get involved. I just happened to find them at a convenient time."
"Tsundere, nice try."
We arrived at the scene.
At the same moment, a woman was stabbed and killed.
"Whoa. This is a proper mess."
What the hell was this situation?
It looked like two factions were clashing over the vampire kid.
Oh — the one holding the vampire kid was the bodyguard I'd healed before.
"An elf? Why are they here…?"
The Demon King murmured something.
Elf?
An elf, as in, the classic fantasy-world exotic race?
Long ears, magic specialists, long-lived?
They actually exist.
He was wearing a hood, so I couldn't see the ears.
The Demon King probably saw through it with Appraisal, but it was inconvenient not being able to casually use Appraisal at times like this.
The Demon King was about to leap out.
I stopped her.
"Wait a bit longer."
"Why?"
"Making your appearance when things are at their absolute worst makes a better impression, doesn't it?"
For some reason, she gave me a look of exasperation.
"White-chan, you're kind of a terrible person, you know that?"
Why was she like this?
While we were going back and forth, the bodyguard went down.
I thought it was about time, but then the vampire kid started drinking the bodyguard's blood.
The air shifted.
Both the vampire kid who drank blood and the bodyguard who had their blood drunk — their presence changed.
The bodyguard, slowly rising, charged at one of the elf-looking men.
Whoa, he was in a frenzy.
The bodyguard cracked his skull wide open.
And then he started drinking that guy's blood too.
"Ah, right after Evolution so his reason's completely shot, huh?"
"Turning into a vampire is an Evolution too?"
"Yep. A special one."
Huh.
Oh — the bodyguard got taken out.
A new woman's magic sent him flying in an instant.
"Hmm? Wait, is that… a
The Demon King's voice took on a sharp edge.
Potimas?
That name sounded vaguely familiar.
Oh — the mastermind-type guy from earlier who attacked D, wasn't it?
"Potimas… is an elf?"
"That's right. The scum of the scum. But the one over there isn't the real deal. He's possessing the body of some nameless elf woman. Using someone else's body to watch from a safe vantage point. He doesn't think of anyone but himself as anything more than a tool. That's what a Potimas is."
Possessing someone else's body, huh.
Hmm.
Possessing someone else's body.
Watching from a safe place (the Great Ello Dungeon).
No interest in anyone but himself.
"Hah!? Come to think of it, White-chan, you're kind of a terrible sc—BUFHHH!?"
Divine punishment.
"It looks like nothing more than a lazy right straight with no power behind it, but not only can you not dodge it, it penetrates physical immunity. So this is what God Power looks like."
The Demon King gave a crisp commentary while a nosebleed trickled down.
"Well, look. The elves in this world aren't what you'd imagine. Frankly speaking, they're the kind of people who are nothing but a blight on the world."
My image of elves just shattered.
"That it's Potimas showing up, even if it's just a borrowed body. What kind of wind blew him here? Well, whatever."
Before I could stop her, the Demon King leaped out.
"Hello hello! Demon King girl
Huh?
What was that idiot saying?
Was she stupid?
Well, whatever.
I'd leave the elves to the Demon King for now.
There was clearly some history there anyway.
I'd go secure the vampire kid.
I moved behind the vampire kid.
Picked them up.
Hmm.
Babies were so squishy and looked delicious.
They were small, so there probably wasn't much to eat, though.
Their cheeks had nice bounce to them — those would be good.
Maybe I'd sneak a little taste.
Not the cheeks though — that felt like too much. Maybe an arm or something.
I could heal them right after anyway.
Just a tiny bit.
Oh.
The kid had wet themselves.
Ah well.
I mean, in a situation where you might die, who could blame you for wetting yourself?
They were a baby after all.
But their mind was that of a high schooler, so… what was the deal?
If it were me, the shame alone would probably kill me.
And honestly, I had zero hesitation about eliminating anyone who witnessed it.
Let's pretend I never saw it.
That was what kindness looked like.
I'd lost my appetite anyway.
I gently placed the vampire kid back where they were.
The bodyguard noticed me and, dragging his feet, shielded the vampire kid.
The Demon King had said he'd just Evolved and his reason was gone, but he seemed pretty conscious from what I could see.
Still, in a different sense, it wouldn't be surprising if he lost consciousness.
Those wounds were severe.
How was he even alive?
Since I'd come this far, I might as well heal him.
Yup.
The healing magic worked without any problems.
"You're not an enemy?"
The bodyguard asked me, so I nodded for now.
Not necessarily an ally either, though.
Over on the Demon King's end, she was going wild.
She was one-shotting everyone except the woman called Potimas.
She was threatening that Potimas — oh, she killed herself.
Was it because it was a borrowed body, so dying didn't hurt?
If so, was it similar in nature to my egg resurrection thing?
Eggs. The eggs!
Crap.
I'd completely forgotten.
What happened to those?
They should've hatched by now, right?
I'd have to go check later.
The Demon King used a sleep-effect wind magic called "Slumbering Gale" to put both the vampire kid and the bodyguard to sleep.
"Well then, shall we wrap this up?"
"Why did you put them to sleep?"
"We can't have a proper conversation here, and they don't trust us yet — this is the fastest way to kidnap them."
Ah, I see.
Well then, let's teleport somewhere appropriate.
This time, I'd make sure to get the coordinates right.
