"Could you tell me about that?"
A bit of information gathering at the adventurer's guild in the town of Surmey.
"Oh, what's this, a kid? Never seen you around here before. You just arrive? Got nothing to talk about with the likes of you."
The man who appeared to be the leader was giving me the cold shoulder.
I silently placed a gold coin on their party's table.
"Hey, Leader, this one seems like they've got some sense, don't they?"
"Yeah, I guess. What do you want to know?"
"Starting with a person named Mary."
"'Lone Wolf' Mary. She's a solo adventurer making good money at Mithril rank. But she got arrested for breaking into a nobleman's estate and stealing his valuables."
"Is that so? The way you're putting it, it sounds like she wasn't the kind of person who'd do something like that."
"Yeah. And she'd sometimes suddenly stab people she'd temporarily teamed up with. Well, the guy she stabbed was a womanizer and he didn't die, but still — Mary isn't the type to go around stirring up trouble like that."
"Are incidents like that happening a lot lately?"
"Yeah, and it's not just Mary. People suddenly attacking nobles, destroying girls at brothels, ambushing and killing their companions — it just keeps happening."
Kind of scary.
"There are some guys where you think, yeah, someone was bound to do that to them eventually. But still, everyone's on edge — you never know, your companion from yesterday might stab you today."
"What a dangerous world we live in."
"Tell me about it. And every single one of them swears up and down, 'I didn't do it.' Some even claim they were in a completely different place at the same time. It's impossible to make sense of any of it."
"I see. Thank you for telling me all of this."
On top of that, I placed another gold coin on the table.

A few days later.
"Thief! Seize him!"
"What the—golden left eye? Damn, how is he so fast?!"
A thief broke into a noble's mansion and made off with the treasure.
The intruder deliberately turned to face the mansion's guards, and the face they saw was the same face as Alan's.

After wrapping up a simple job and returning to the inn, the guards suddenly burst into my room.
"You're Alan, the young adventurer with the golden left eye, right? A complaint has been filed that you stole a sword from the mansion of Count Minnitz, the noble who governs this town. Stay put!"
Guards came swarming in.
I didn't understand what they were talking about, but I could tell I was being framed for something I didn't do.
I only just learned the name of the noble who runs this place.
Alright, let's send them away peacefully then.
[Reverse]!
I flipped the perception that I was the culprit into the perception that I wasn't the culprit.
"Oh, my sincerest apologies, Adventurer Alan. It appears we have the wrong person. If you happen to have any leads on the real culprit, do let us know. We must report back to Count Minnitz, you understand."
And the guards turned to leave as though nothing had happened.
"Wait just a moment."
"What is it?"
"Could you tell me exactly what happened?"
"Last night, it was reported that a child with a golden left eye broke into Count Minits's mansion, and the holy sword Excalibur, which is a treasure, was stolen."
Is that so.
But I was actually using Teleport to return to Sophia's room last night, so that can't be true.
"Thank you. Please do your best to find the culprit."
