Chapter 202: The Necklace

January 17, 2020 · 5 min read · 962 words

"No! Impossible!"

Jenna, collapsed to one side with one hand pressed against her half-ruined face, stared at Leilin, who had already broken free, and screamed in utter disbelief.

"How could you escape?! I didn't see this happening in the future!"

Jenna shrieked, the muscles on her face subtly twisting.

"I know now—it must be! You must be a traitor who has betrayed destiny!" Jenna's voice turned sharp and piercing.

"It doesn't matter what I am! What matters is! You're going to die a miserable death today!"

Killing intent surged across Leilin's face. Since he had embarked on the path of becoming a Wizard, this was the first time he had suffered such a grievous loss!

Both the injuries to his body and his left arm—nearly broken—were not wounds that would heal easily. This would undoubtedly create even more obstacles for his mission in the secret realm.

Thinking of this, the rage in Leilin's heart burned even hotter.

"You wretched woman! I'll make you understand the price of offending me!"

Leilin roared, and his only intact right hand clawed viciously toward where Jenna lay!

Wisps of black smoke rose from the ground like ropes, crawling along the surface toward Jenna.

"Guard!" Jenna gripped the thick necklace around her neck.

A red gemstone lit up, and then a massive lava fireball materialized in front of Jenna, hurtling toward the countless streams of black smoke.

BOOM!

Enormous waves of energy dispersed in all directions. Scalding red lava splattered outward, burning black holes into the ground.

"Today! Even if you've placed every wizard spell on that necklace, nothing can save you!"

A cold gleam flashed in Leilin's eyes.

Several black fireballs materialized in an instant and merged into one in midair. A tremendous wave of energy erupted forth, and the devastating power—reaching fifty-one degrees—scorched a massive crater directly into the ground.

"Shadow Fireball!"

Leilin pointed at Jenna.

The enormous fireball plummeted like a falling sun, hurtling directly toward Jenna's position.

Before the black flames even descended, several more beads of cold sweat appeared on Jenna's already pale face.

"Frost!" Jenna clenched her teeth and spat out an ancient Byronic character.

Instantly! The necklace around her neck erupted in a chain of white light, each pearl lighting up one after another as waves of frost magic radiated outward.

Amid the white radiance, over a dozen massive ice shields materialized in an instant before Jenna.

The huge, white, semi-transparent surfaces of the shields clearly reflected the surrounding scenery, and the black fireball that had been hurtling down from above slammed into the dozen ice shields in the blink of an eye.

Countless plumes of white steam billowed upward.

After traveling several meters, the steam quickly condensed into droplets of water and chunks of ice that rained down.

When everything finally settled, the ice shields before Jenna had vanished without a trace, and the Shadowfireball was gone as well.

From within the white vapor, a dark figure suddenly surged forward.

Leyin's entire body was covered in a fine layer of Komoin scales as he charged straight at Jenna.

Crack!

The ice barrier that had erupted from Jenna's necklace was torn apart by Leyin's right hand in an instant. At the same time, he lunged at her with a crushing bear charge.

Bam! Leyin's shoulder drove forward, and the tremendous impact slammed into Jenna's body.

Hiss! A milky-white membrane of light instantly appeared on the surface of Jenna's clothing, enveloping her entire body.

It was Jenna's innate wizardry defense, finally erupting at the moment of greatest danger.

Crack, crack!

Jenna was sent hurtling backward like a derailed locomotive, smashing through a number of trees along the way.

"That woman..."

Leyin's eyes locked onto Jenna. After their brief exchange, he could now confirm that this Jenna was merely a newly advanced Wizard, and her degree of elemental transformation was far inferior to his own. If not for that exceptional Magical Item and her peculiar precognitive talent, she would have long since been dead at his hands.

But if he gave her time to set up properly, she could exploit her enemy's weaknesses and lay down devastating traps just like that white-pillar prison from before — even a peak first-tier Wizard would suffer terribly!

"Enemies with precognitive abilities are the most troublesome. I got lucky today — her foresight had a flaw. Next time, things might not go so smoothly!"

Leyin's gaze turned cold in an instant, sharp as ice.

An enemy with the ability to foresee your moves, lurking in the shadows and scheming against you — that was a feeling one taste of was more than enough.

His killing intent had never been so urgent as it was now.

"Shadow Stealth!"

Leyin kept his eyes fixed on Jenna, who had already gotten back to her feet. The scales covering his body flickered with light and gradually turned semi-transparent until he vanished entirely into the air.

Against Jenna, he had decided to hold nothing back. He would do whatever it took to keep that despicable woman from leaving here alive.

Seeing Leyin vanish into thin air, Jenna's expression grew even more solemn. At this moment, she could clearly feel the unshakable resolve Leyin had to kill her. Her naturally sharp sixth sense, further enhanced by a high-level Meditation Method, warned her that if she wasn't careful enough, the one who would die here today would certainly be her!

This terrifying experience seized Jenna's mind for the first time. Deep within her, the iron will she had once held was already beginning to show signs of wavering.

For the first time, Jenna felt that coming after Leyin alone had been a terrible mistake!

This fear and regret gnawed at her heart like a venomous serpent, continuously corroding Jenna's already fragile inner resolve.
