Chapter 179: Fierce Battle

January 17, 2020 · 4 min read · 873 words

The Wraith Abomination was a creature synthesized by wizards that Leilin Farell had read about in ancient texts.

Its exact origins were no longer clear, but Leilin remembered well that in those ancient records, the Abomination was described directly as a demon.

This creature not only possessed incredibly powerful physical strength and vitality, but what was even more terrifying was that it constantly emitted spiritual contamination from its body.

This soul plague was something ordinary people had absolutely no way to resist — it would often wipe out entire swathes of a population at once.

So whenever an Abomination appeared, it typically signaled the destruction of one or even several ordinary human cities.

And the most devastating incident involved over a hundred Abominations appearing together as an army!

This horrifying legion had even managed to forcibly breach the headquarters of two ancient wizards, resulting in the death of more than twenty percent of the entire South Coast's ordinary population!

In the end, it took the intervention of an unnamed ancient Morning Star Wizard to finally obliterate the entire terrifying army.

"I didn't expect that these Abominations were actually created by the ancient Soul Harvest Cult! That makes sense — the timeline lines up perfectly!"

Understanding flickered across Leilin's eyes.

According to the Wizard World's recorded history, after the Abomination catastrophe, the Soul Harvest Cult had fallen into a strange state — first proclaiming that their supreme deity Gegewu would descend and rule the world, then conducting several massive blood sacrifices before vanishing entirely from the wizarding world.

Now it was clear that the Soul Harvest Cult, having aroused the fury of all, had been jointly annihilated by the South Coast's wizard community!

At that moment, the approaching Abomination spotted Leilin.

Its two mismatched eyes radiated a bloodthirsty gleam, and even its fat, bloated body trembled slightly with excitement.

A pale green mist spread rapidly, blanketing the entire garden ruins.

"Soul Plague!" Leilin's face tightened as he recognized the Abomination's most terrifying ability.

"Comoin Scales!"

With a thought, his entire body was instantly covered in a layer of fine scales. The scales were black, densely packing his arms and even his face without exception.

Enveloped in the scales, Leilin's appearance underwent a dramatic transformation — even his eyes took on an amber-like hue.

These scales didn't make him look savage. Instead, under the bloodline charm of a warlock, they only made him appear more fluid and aesthetically striking.

Even an ordinary person looking at him would think Leilin now radiated a kind of beast-like beauty.

In fact, if Leilin were currently among the serpentine races of the half-beastmen, he might even be presented as a precious tribute to the Snake Mothers of various serpent clans — though Leilin would certainly have been less than thrilled about that.

After activating his innate talent defense in an instant, Leilin wasn't satisfied. He swept his hand across the base of his neck.

A burst of dark crimson light erupted from beneath his neck, spreading to envelop his entire body and roughly forming the shape of armor.

Facing the terrifying Soul Plague, Leilin was taking extra precautions — not only unleashing his innate talent at full power, but even activating the Falling Star Pendant, his long-held trump card.

An ancient Abomination's strength absolutely far exceeded that of a typical First-level Wizard, and on top of that, the Soul Harvest Cult's wizards had added who-knew-what kind of grotesque abilities to it, making it even more sinister and difficult to deal with.

Leilin had no intention of bringing himself inescapable trouble over a momentary lapse — problems of the soul were far harder to heal than physical injuries!

And now, on top of the original blood-red light membrane, he had added the Comoin Scales and the Falling Star Pendant as two additional layers of defense.

The moment Leilin finished his preparations, the pale green mist rolled over his area.

Hummm!

The instant the mist enveloped him, Leilin felt his head go dizzy. But immediately the crimson light in his sea of consciousness rippled, and the crystal at its center emitted a pulse of spiritual power that dispersed the dizziness in an instant.

Tssss!

At the same time, Leilin's outermost scarlet light membrane defense emitted a corroding hiss the moment it came into contact with the mist, and within seconds it completely collapsed.

Then the phantom armor formed by the Falling Star Pendant began groaning under the strain, its stored energy steadily draining.

"It hasn't even broken through the defense yet — this is just the aftershock of the spiritual contamination, and it's already having this kind of effect!"

Leilin stared at the approaching Abomination with a sharp hiss, the wariness on his face growing ever more pronounced.

"RAARGH!!"

Two additional thick arms suddenly sprouted from the Abomination's back, bracing against the ground!

Using that burst of leverage, the Abomination's speed surged as it charged straight toward Leilin, its left-hand axe hacking viciously toward his waist!

The sheer force hadn't even landed yet, but it seemed to compress the surrounding air into crystal, hurtling toward Leilin with devastating momentum!

Leilin's eyes flashed blue, and his body twisted at an impossible angle, slipping through the gap in the axe's swing.

"Shadow Fireball!"
